Job description

  • Design and specify systems for a run-based strategy game, including encounters, events, resources, progression, and combat.
  • Create content that blends narrative situations, mechanical choices, and meaningful consequences.
  • Design replayable systems that support variety, tension, discovery, and mastery.
  • Script, playtest, balance, and iterate on game content and systems.
  • Write clear design documentation, content briefs, and balancing notes.
  • Identify design risks, pacing issues, exploits, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with designers, artists, developers, and producers to ensure high-quality implementation.
  • Help us create memorable strategy experiences through a strong understanding of players and systemic games.

Requirements

Abrakam is looking for an experienced Senior Game Designer to work on a roguelite strategy game. The ideal candidate has a passion for systemic games, roguelite progression, tactical decision-making, and replayable strategy experiences. They should be comfortable designing elegant systems where events, upgrades, resources, combat, and player choices combine to create memorable stories., * At least 5 years of professional experience as a Game Designer.

  • Proven experience designing game systems, content, or progression loops.
  • Strong familiarity with roguelites, strategy games, tactical games, card games, or management games.
  • Strong understanding of pacing, risk / reward, resource management, player agency, and replayability.
  • Ability to create content where narration and gameplay blend naturally together.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to write clear and actionable design documentation.
  • Comfortable working with technical constraints and implementation details.
  • Able to work effectively with deadlines and take ownership of assigned features.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Able to work on site (Liège, Belgium)

  • Experience working on run-based, roguelite, tactical, card, or strategy games.
  • Experience with scripting languages, Unity, or Git.
  • Strong writing / storytelling skills.
