Job description

Work alongside the IT Infrastructure and Cyber Team and be responsible for building, maintaining, and optimising the Cloud Infrastructure. This is a hands-on implementation role.

  • Will be expected to design, build, and improve cloud infrastructure and automation directly, taking ownership of platforms and workloads post-migration and driving continuous improvement.

Requirements

Minimum 3 years' experience in a senior AWS platform and cloud engineering.

  • Proven ability to translate cloud architecture designs into engineered solutions, including infrastructure, security, and CI/CD automation.

  • Expert-level hands-on experience with AWS core services, including EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS (particularly Oracle), CloudWatch, and Systems Manager.

  • Demonstrable experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly using Terraform to build reusable modules, enforce guardrails, and support multi-environment deployments.

  • Strong working knowledge of AWS-native CI/CD services such as CodeBuild and CodePipeline, or equivalent tooling, and experience embedding security and compliance gates within release pipelines.

  • Experience operating RHEL and Windows workloads in AWS, including system hardening, and experience designing and implementing fully automated patch management using AWS Systems Manager, including patch baselines, maintenance windows, and compliance reporting.

  • Solid understanding of AWS security services, including IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, Config, and VPC security controls.

  • Experience implementing platform-level monitoring and alerting using CloudWatch Logs, Metrics, Alarms, and integration with centralised dashboards or SIEM tooling.

  • Familiarity with tagging strategies, cost allocation, and FinOps-aware engineering to support operational governance.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex deployment and runtime issues, particularly within hybrid environments or multi-account AWS setups.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with experience working alongside traditional infrastructure teams and supporting knowledge transfer and uplift.

  • Experience supporting database workloads in AWS, particularly Oracle on RDS, including backup, patching, and connectivity.

  • Experience reviewing and refactoring existing Terraform codebases to meet best practice standards, including module restructuring, state management, and enforcement of tagging and security guardrails.

  • Experience operating within a multi-account AWS environment including shared services account patterns, centralised logging, and cross-account resource access.

Desirable Skills:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional), AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator.

  • Experience working alongside infrastructure teams earlier in their AWS maturity journey, supporting knowledge transfer and capability development.

  • Understanding of Public sector challenges and constraints

  • Understanding of modern software development frameworks

  • Understanding of testing approach and tooling for a cloud hosted infrastructure

  • Understanding of SOAP and REST APIs, API Gateways & API Management
