Job description
- We design, implement, and optimize consensus mechanisms to improve the throughput and stability of the Solana network.
- We develop and refine algorithms to ensure fair and efficient agreement on block production among validators.
- We identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities within consensus mechanisms to protect against emerging threats.
- We improve the scalability of the consensus system to support increasing transaction volumes and validator participation without compromising performance.
- We create and execute comprehensive tests to validate reliability and efficiency, including stress tests, fault injection, and performance benchmarking.
- We collaborate with cross-functional teams, including core protocol engineers, security experts, and infrastructure teams, to ensure seamless integration of consensus components.
- We maintain thorough documentation of consensus protocols and conduct peer code reviews to uphold code quality and consistency.

In this Software Engineer, Consensus role, you will help fortify our Agave client and the broader Solana network, improving the efficiency, reliability, security, and scalability of our blockchain infrastructure. The salary range for US-based candidates is anticipated to be $180,000 to $300,000 USD annually, excluding incentive compensation and other benefits, with final compensation determined during the interview process based on experience, skill, and location.
Requirements
- We require a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, along with 3+ years of hands-on experience with core infrastructure software and distributed systems.
- We are looking for strong proficiency in systems programming languages such as Rust or C++.
- Experience with consensus algorithms, distributed systems, and blockchain technology is highly desirable.
- We value strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex systems and develop effective, flexible solutions.
- We expect knowledge of common security threats and best practices for securing consensus processes.
- A growth mindset is important, including actively consuming research papers and designing new solutions.
- Experience with performance profiling and optimization techniques is required.

- Familiarity with Linux, systems automation tools, and systems architecture is preferred.
