Job description
We're looking for an experienced SQL Server DBA to support a large enterprise financial services environment. You'll be responsible for administering and optimising Microsoft SQL Server databases, ensuring high availability, performance and security across business-critical systems, while helping rationalise a complex database estate through optimisation and data archiving., As part of a collaborative technology team, you'll manage and maintain production SQL Server environments, working closely with developers, infrastructure and DevOps teams to deliver reliable, high-performing database services. You'll also support a database rationalisation initiative, reviewing an estate of over 1,100 tables to identify opportunities for optimisation, archiving and improved efficiency., * Administer, configure and support Microsoft SQL Server (2012-2022)
- Monitor database health, availability and performance
- Optimise queries, indexes, stored procedures and execution plans
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks
- Implement and maintain backup, recovery and disaster recovery strategies
- Support High Availability solutions, including Always On Availability Groups
- Review and rationalise a large database estate, identifying unused objects and supporting data archiving
- Manage database security, users, permissions and compliance
- Automate routine DBA tasks using SQL Server Agent and maintenance plans
- Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to support deployments and production environments
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA
- Excellent SQL and T-SQL skills
- SQL Server administration (2012-2022)
- Database performance tuning and optimisation
- Query optimisation, indexing and execution plan analysis
- High Availability solutions, including Always On Availability Groups
- Backup, recovery and disaster recovery planning
- SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
- Experience supporting large enterprise production environments
Desirable Skills
- Oracle database experience
- Database archiving and data life cycle management
- Experience with Redgate, ApexSQL or similar SQL administration tools
- Monitoring tools such as SolarWinds or SentryOne
- Experience working within Financial Services or other highly regulat
