Job description
As a Senior Ruby Developer, you will be at the forefront of designing, building, and maintaining robust, secure, and user-centric digital services. You will work within an agile delivery team to transform complex public services into simple, accessible digital experiences, strictly adhering to the Government Digital Service (GDS) Service Standard., * Design & Development: Build and maintain scalable, secure, and resilient web applications using Ruby on Rails.
- Standards & Accessibility: Ensure all digital products meet GDS Service Standards and comply with WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA accessibility guidelines.
- Testing & CI/CD: Write clean, well-tested code (TDD/BDD using RSpec) and manage automated deployment pipelines.
- Technical Leadership: Lead architectural decisions, participate in code reviews, and advocate for technical debt reduction.
- Collaboration: Actively contribute to agile ceremonies (sprints, stand-ups, retrospectives) and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Testing Frameworks: Strong background in Test-Driven Development (TDD) using RSpec, Capybara, or similar frameworks.

Database & API Design: Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and designing secure, RESTful APIs.

Cloud & DevOps: Experience deploying and managing applications in cloud environments.

Frontend Basics: Good understanding of HTML5, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript.

Previous experience working on GDS/GOV.UK projects or passing GDS assessments.

Familiarity with the GOV.UK Design System and prototype kit.

Understanding of public sector security practices, data protection (GDPR), and handling sensitive data.
