Job description
- We design, develop and maintain modern full-stack web applications using TypeScript, React and Next.js.
- We build scalable APIs and backend services using Node.js and tRPC.
- We design, implement and optimise PostgreSQL database schemas using Prisma.
- We deliver new product features from planning through to deployment.
- We improve application performance, reliability and scalability.
- We integrate third-party services and APIs including email, notification and external business systems.
- We write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following modern engineering practices.
- We participate in code reviews and help maintain high development standards.
- We improve our CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
- We work closely with the product team to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
- We mentor junior developers where appropriate and contribute to technical discussions and architectural decisions.
- We lead the development of robust, efficient and scalable web applications using TypeScript and Next.js.
- We collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- We design and implement RESTful APIs to support communication between front-end interfaces and back-end services.
- We integrate third-party services and cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure to optimise application performance and security.
- We write clean, maintainable code using GitHub or SVN.
- We conduct code reviews, testing and debugging to ensure high standards of quality.
- We maintain documentation of system architecture, APIs and development processes.
- We stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve development practices.

We are HAS Utility, a growing SaaS business based in Manchester. We are building and evolving our enterprise utility management platform, including a CRM and quotation platform used by internal teams and B2B customers. This is an office-based, full-time role in Manchester M12, where you will join a collaborative development team and work on software that supports thousands of customer interactions every month. Requirements
- We are looking for someone with commercial experience developing production web applications.
- We need strong commercial experience with TypeScript, React and Node.js.
- We need excellent knowledge of Next.js, including the App Router, Server Components, Server Actions and Middleware.
- We need strong SQL and PostgreSQL experience, including schema design, indexing, query optimisation and database migrations.
- We need experience using Prisma ORM.
- We need experience building REST APIs or type-safe APIs using tRPC.
- We need experience with authentication using OAuth and JWT.
- We need experience writing unit and integration tests using Jest or Vitest.
- We need experience using Git and working within collaborative development teams.
- We need experience working with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
- We value familiarity with TanStack Query, Zustand, Turborepo, pnpm Workspaces, Inngest, Vercel deployments, GitHub Actions, Docker, SendGrid, Novu, AWS or Azure.
