The role focuses on implementing data architectures, pipelines, and integrations defined by the Data Architect, ensuring data is ingested, transformed, and made available in a performant, reliable, and governed manner.

This role sits within Architecture & Platform Engineering and reports into the Data & Quality Compliance Manager. It works closely with the Data Architect to implement approved data architectures, models, and standards, and with Platform Engineering and Software Engineering teams to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable data platforms. The role has no architectural or release authority but is accountable for the quality, reliability, and operational effectiveness of data pipelines and data platform components in production. What I Do Is:

  • Implement data ingestion, transformation, and analytics pipelines in line with approved data architectures and models.
  • Build and operate ETL/ELT pipelines to support batch and near-real-time data processing.
  • Develop and maintain data storage solutions including relational databases, data lakes, and data warehouses.
  • Ensure data pipelines are reliable, performant, and observable in production environments.
  • Work closely with the Data Architect to implement agreed data models, standards, and patterns.
  • Collaborate with Platform Engineers to deploy and operate data infrastructure securely and efficiently.
  • Integrate automation and AI-driven efficiencies into data processing and operational workflows where appropriate.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data pipeline and platform issues.
  • Support data quality, governance, and compliance requirements through implementation and operational controls.
  • Assist with database administration tasks including optimisation, maintenance, and performance tuning.
  • Document data pipelines, operational procedures, and implementation decisions clearly.
  • Continuously improve data platform reliability, performance, and scalability.
  • Stay current with data engineering tools, cloud data services, and best practices.
  • Stay current with cloud data technologies, analytics trends, and emerging tools., * Data pipelines are reliable, performant, and operate with minimal manual intervention.
  • Data platforms consistently deliver accurate, timely, and trusted data to consumers.
  • Approved data architectures and models are implemented correctly and consistently.
  • Data-related incidents are resolved quickly and reduce over time.
  • Engineering and analytical teams can rely on data platforms to meet their needs.
  • Continuous improvements to data platform stability, performance, and scalability are evident.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar data-focused engineering role.
  • Strong experience with cloud data platforms and services (e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Hands-on experience with data storage technologies including relational and non-relational databases.
  • Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and analytics workflows.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with data processing frameworks and tools.
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages (e.g. Python, TypeScript).
  • Working knowledge of software engineering and DevOps principles.
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with architects and stakeholders to deliver agreed designs.
  • Strong problem-solving and operational troubleshooting skills
