As a part of the AFT Material Catalog Team, you will work on developing systems that identify and describe billions of units of inventory that flow through Amazon's vast network of fulfillment centers. From optimizing inventory identification and catalog accuracy to serving millions of TPS with the optimal cost and single digit millisecond latencies, our team is at the forefront of solving complex challenges in the world of e-commerce.

You will work with a diverse group of engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to build scalable, reliable, and high-performance software solutions that enable Amazon's customers to receive their orders on time, every time.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, program managers, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet technical and business requirements.
  • Develop scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems that can handle large volumes of data and traffic in real-time.
  • Participate in the full software development life cycle, including writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, conducting code reviews, deploying production-ready software to Amazon's infrastructure and supporting the software in production.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across multiple systems and services, collaborating with other teams as needed.

A day in the life As an SDE in Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) Inventory team, day-to-day you'll work on diverse and challenging tasks like designing new services, supporting AFT's large infrastructure, collaborating with your team members and cross-functional teams, and training machine learning models to create smarter capabilities in Amazon Fulfillment Centers. All the work you will do will ensure that Amazon customers receive their packages on time while all fulfillment processes are safe and compliant for Amazon associates and customers. About the team Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers Amazon's global fulfillment network. We invent and deliver software, hardware, and data science solutions that orchestrate processes, robots, machines, and people. We harmonize the physical and digital world so Amazon customers can get what they want, when they want it.

Inventory AFT's Inventory team delivers complex, innovative, scalable solutions to manage the end-to-end lifecycle of all physical goods across the Amazon fulfillment network, ensuring both inventory record accuracy and safe inventory handling for billions of items.

Requirements

3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language, Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, or Master's degree or equivalent
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Java or Perl
  • Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers, or experience in debugging, profiling, and implementing software engineering best practices in large-scale systems
  • Knowledge of AWS services including compute, storage, networking, security, databases, machine learning, and serverless technologies
  • Knowledge of data structures, data modeling, and database schema
  • Knowledge of agile development and best coding practices including peer code reviews, and unit testing
  • Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities, or experience working with customers with a passion for delivering exceptional service
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Experience in designing and implementing machine learning models and working with data science teams.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
