Job description

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure to ensure reliable and secure communication throughout the organization. This position serves as a subject matter expert in network engineering, providing guidance on configuring, maintaining, upgrading, and monitoring network devices. The role includes troubleshooting complex network issues and leading optimization and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and scalability. The Senior Network Engineer drives the adoption of innovative technologies and industry standards to maintain a cutting-edge Cisco-based network environment. Responsibilities and Tasks * Network Solutions: Lead the design and implementation of network solutions aligned with organizational requirements, including creating network diagrams and blueprints. Ensure infrastructure supports business objectives. * Network Design & Architecture: Guide and architect highly complex network systems, including software-defined networking, with a focus on scalability, security, and efficiency. * Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics to resolve network issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring reliability. * Network Maintenance: Advise on maintaining and updating network systems, including applying patches, service packs, and security configurations. * Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Monitor network performance, recommend continuous improvements, and lead necessary adjustments to maintain system availability and reliability. * Security Management: Lead and mentor the implementation and maintenance of robust network security measures to protect against threats and preserve data integrity. * Disaster Recovery Planning: Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in the event of network failures. * Network Automation: Lead the development and implementation of automation tools to streamline network operations, including configuration management, device provisioning, and software updates. * Innovation & Technology Adoption: Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, influencing innovation and modernization within the network infrastructure. * Documentation and Diagrams: Produce accurate documentation and diagrams for installations and current network status.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years relevant work experience; typically 10+ years preferred.
  • 6+ years in Networking (Routing, Switching, SD-WAN) with strong understanding of Software Defined Networks.
  • Extensive experience with Cisco Meraki products and strong skills in design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Active, non-expired CCIE, CCNA, or CCNP certifications are a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Visio for creating network topologies.
  • Knowledge and experience in local and wide area networking.
  • Familiarity with communications hardware and software.
  • Deep experience with the Cisco Meraki product family.
  • Strong wireless design experience; wireless heatmap creation is desired.
  • 10 years of network engineering experience in large-scale, distributed IT teams.
  • Expert knowledge of WAN technologies and protocols, including BGP, OSPF, QoS, CoS, ACLs, NAT/CGNAT, VPLS, VPNs, and IPSec.
  • Experience across various network areas: switching, routing, traditional WAN, Firepower firewall, F5 load-balancing, networking protocols, DNS, DHCP, and network observability.
  • At least 8 years maintaining and managing networks running OSPF and BGP, with QoS implementations.

  • Occasional exposure to weather elements during travel or building transfers
  • Ability to lift network appliances and switch gear
  • Ability to move around network racks
  • Organized approach to cabling layout
