Job description

Twilio is growing rapidly and seeking a Senior Director of Engineering to lead infrastructure and quality capabilities for the Flex BU. Flex, the first fully programmable cloud contact center, is a platform product that integrates native Twilio services while serving up a pluggable infrastructure that allows partners and customers to extend and customize the platform for their unique needs. This new role sits within the Flex product BU and will support the acceleration of quality goals for the BU and align and influence broader Twilio goals in the platform discipline. You will build an organization of Infrastructure as Code (IAC) and Application Testing (SDET) teams that raises the bar on overall product quality by evolving our deployment pipelines, tools, and testing capabilities to world class status. Flex teams, much like all of Twilio, own their services from inception to production. This role will accelerate the tools and capabilities available to teams and ensure consistency across the BU. In this role, you will develop a strategy and prioritize implementation of the highest ROI value items for the BU that accelerate our ability to deploy, manage, and test our systems across multiple pods or geographies. You will lead teams to solve technical challenges alongside Flex application development engineers that allow us to win as a team. In this role, you will be part of a global team that is changing how we look at platform capabilities within Flex and you will partner with Twilio platform teams to influence and contribute back to broader corporate platform strategies; seeing your ideas implemented across the entire Twilio R&D organization., DRAW THE OWL: There is no instruction book, it's ours to write. This is an opportunity to come in and lead to fill gaps in our delivery & quality model. Bring your ideas and passion for implementation and a drive to make the entire team successful.

BE AN OWNER: Build and grow a team of passionate engineers. Provide support and guidance that enables the team to self-organize and to achieve sustained high velocity and predictability in delivering software changes. Work closely with both Flex and Twilio Platform teams to drive and adopt emerging best practices and technologies.

WEAR THE CUSTOMER'S SHOES: Your teams will build and operate services and platform capabilities that delight your customers. You will get to know your customers and walk in their shoes, by listening to your customers' challenges, identifying opportunities, and crafting solutions.

EMPOWER OTHERS - You will foster the growth of an inclusive, high-performing team geographically distribed across NAMER, EMEA, APAC. Outside your team, you will champion communities of practice, and can be an expert to lead and mentor when needed. Most importantly, you have the desire to collaborate across teams on best practices to build, test and operate services at scale.

WRITE IT DOWN: You will communicate effectively to executives, to your peers, and internally among your team. You can distill complex thoughts and articulate concepts and project plans in written and verbal communication.

NO SHENANIGANS: Be intellectually honest when evaluating tools, conducting due diligence, and deciding development strategy and execution within your team.
