Job description

The position is for a Senior Hardware Development Engineer in the Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG), based in Morrisville, North Carolina. This is an exciting role in the ThinkSystem Server Development organization that has a strong focus to be the #1 trusted IT Partner in the Datacenter market. The Senior engineer will be looked upon to lead a set of highly motivated engineers to develop innovative and complex server designs to meet customer and business needs. These organic designs provide exposure to the latest technologies from Lenovo and its development partners to meet market demands. The role also entails solving unique client challenges through the custom development of solutions and direct engagement with customers. The candidate will be tasked to lead a team of engineers and engage with architecture and executive leaders in the development organization to design and deliver the ISG portfolio's next generation of servers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of in-depth experience in x86 or AMD architecture and hardware design.
  • At least 10 years of experience in EDA schematic design tools for PCB schematic creation, support Physical design activity and then define/perform low level hardware validation.
  • Experience in leading engineers/team wrt technical direction and product development.
  • Ability to triage and resolve complex hardware issues and provide guidance to other engineers who are assigned tasks related to the problem investigation.
  • Strong organizational skills to lead server subsystem designs with a team of highly motivated engineers that deliver innovative and challenging server designs.

Preferred skills:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering
  • Server design experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in FPGA code development and validation, DC Power circuit design, and/or PCIe bus design, simulation, and validation. Proficiency in Linux/Windows Operating systems.
  • Experience with OS virtualization is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in shell scripting (BASH/Perl/Python and Windows Power Shell) preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership on a project with engineering team members located in multiple geographies.
  • Ability to provide mentorship to other engineers and support the growth and development of engineering talent applied to new technologies.
  • Business acumen to engage with various functional teams required to take projects from concept to production.
