Job description

As a Cybersecurity Applications Engineer, you will develop andvalidatecybersecurity tooling and features for Tesla Energy projects including utility-scale battery power plants. You will build and test solutions such as intrusion detection systems,monitoringdashboards, and network security architectures to protect critical energy infrastructure. You will work with global cross-functional teams spanning SCADA, Network Operations, SW/HW development, Project Engineering, and Sales Engineering.We'relooking for a flexible, collaborative engineer with a passion for sustainable energy and the ability to contribute to diverse technical challenges. What You'll Do

  • Apply Cyber-Informed Engineering (CIE) principles to drive cybersecurity risk assessments for Tesla Energy products and systems, including utility-scale battery projects. Ensure solutions are secure bydesignandidentifyappropriate product-leveland project-level cybersecurity controls.
  • Design, build, andvalidatecybersecurity tooling and features - including intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), network monitoring tools, security dashboards, and automation for vulnerability scanning, log analysis, and continuous security monitoring. Write specifications and test plans, build and test prototypes, manage deployment, and document new capabilities
  • Develop andmaintainproject-level cybersecurity guidelines and reference architectures - including DMZ design,firewallrule sets, network segmentation, and secure remote access - to ensure consistent security implementation across critical infrastructure environments
  • Facilitate implementation of cybersecurity measuresrequiredfor critical infrastructure telemetry and remote access, ensuring solutions meet applicable standards such as NERC-CIP and IEC 62443
  • Provide technical support both internally and externally with customers throughout the sales and deployment of Tesla products into new and complex applications

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related engineering discipline with 3+ years of work experience; or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity for industrial control systems. Familiar with North American and international energy industry standards such as NERC-CIP, IEC 62443 (including 2-1, 3-2, and 4-2), and ISO 27001
  • Familiar with Operational Technology energy systems including devices such as meters, inverters, SCADA controllers, and network systems, with hands-on experience in communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, MQTT, and OPC UA
  • Experience withimplementing industry-standard cybersecurity requirements: DMZ, jump/proxy servers,firewallrules, network segmentation, and intrusion detection/prevention systems
  • Skilled with automation and familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C, C++, Rust, Go, or similar
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team

Expected Compensation $160,000 - $330,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
