Day-to-day responsibilities include writing and maintaining high-quality code, developing and executing unit tests, collaborating through pull-request workflows, and supporting CI/CD pipelines. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to triage issues, deploy software enhancements, and ensure application reliability in mission-critical environments.
Requirements
A client of Insight Global is seeking a TS Software Engineer to join a mission-focused team in either Melbourne FL, Chantilly VA, or Rochester NY, supporting national security initiatives. This individual will be responsible for developing, debugging, and maintaining software solutions in a secure and high-impact environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Java development, experience working in Linux systems, and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in operational or production systems., This role also involves leveraging modern development practices including Agile methodologies, containerized deployments (Kubernetes), and enterprise Java frameworks. Candidates with experience in geospatial data, imagery processing, or national security systems will be highly valued. Strong communication skills and the ability to operate in a secure, team-oriented setting are essential for success., Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related STEM field + 6+ years of experience (or equivalent combination of education/experience) Active Top Secret Clearance with SCI or SCI eligibility Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills Experience with Java (Java 11+ preferred) Experience writing unit tests (JUnit, Mockito preferred) Experience with SQL (PostgreSQL preferred) Experience working in Linux environments Experience with Git and collaborative pull-request workflows (Bitbucket/GitLab) Experience with build tools (Maven preferred) Experience with CI tools (Jenkins preferred) Ability to work effectively in a mission-focused team environment
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience assessing and triaging deployed software in production/operational environments Experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS Experience supporting or deploying applications in Kubernetes environments Experience with Agile methodologies Experience with Java IDEs (NetBeans preferred) Experience with Java Enterprise (JBoss/Wildfly) RESTful services, message-driven beans, CDI
Experience with scripting languages (Bash, Groovy, Python) Experience with C++
Geospatial data, satellite imagery NITF/TIFF imagery, GeoJSON OGC services (WFS/WMS)
Experience supporting DoD, IC, or national security environments Strong written and verbal communication skills
