Senior Mainframe IDMS Database Administrator

We're looking for an experienced Senior IDMS DBA on a 12-month contract supporting a mission-critical government-focused environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled mainframe professional with deep IDMS DBA expertise to work on a long-term engagement supporting critical production systems.

About the Role

You'll be responsible for supporting and maintaining mission-critical IDMS database environments that underpin highly sensitive government systems within a regulated UK environment.

This position is part of a planned knowledge transfer due to upcoming retirements, ensuring continued support for a key customer. We're looking for someone with strong technical depth who can confidently manage complex production environments from day one.

You'll work within a 24x7 operational environment, focusing on database availability, performance, stability, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Support IDMS databases in a 24x7 production environment

Apply software updates, patches, and ongoing maintenance

Monitor, analyse, and tune database performance

Investigate system abends and perform root cause analysis

Develop and maintain REXX and ISPF tools

Improve monitoring capabilities and reduce manual DBA intervention

Execute EZ-IDMS utilities, including EZ-Reorg and EZ-Syncro

Support IPL activities

Participate in an on-call support rota

10+ years' experience in IBM Mainframe environments

7+ years' experience as an IDMS DBA

Strong expertise in z/OS

Deep knowledge of CA IDMS database administration

Strong REXX and ISPF development skills

Proven experience in dump analysis and root cause investigation

Ability to work within a highly regulated environment

Government security clearance, or eligibility to obtain clearance, is required

Bachelor's degree preferred

Desirable Skills

Experience with EZ-IDMS tools

Previous experience supporting 24x7 production environments
