Job description
We are looking for a practical and customer-focused Technical Support Engineer to support our Lift, material handling, drives and commissioning projects.
This is a varied role for someone with a strong electrical, controls or automation background who enjoys fault finding, supporting customers and seeing systems work successfully in the real world. You will provide technical support across material handling applications, drive systems, control panels and associated automation equipment.
The role will involve supporting projects from build and test through to installation, commissioning and aftersales support. You will work closely with engineering, production, project teams and customers to help ensure systems are delivered, commissioned and supported to a high standard.
This position would suit someone who is hands-on, technically curious and confident working with electrical control systems, drives, sensors, motors and industrial automation equipment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing technical support for material handling, drives, control systems and automation projects.
- Supporting installation, testing and commissioning activities on customer sites.
- Fault finding on electrical control systems, drives, motors, sensors, instrumentation and associated equipment.
- Assisting with setup, configuration and testing of variable speed drives and related control equipment.
- Supporting PLC-based and microprocessor-based control systems during build, test and commissioning.
- Working with engineering and production teams to resolve technical queries.
- Supporting customer technical enquiries, service issues and aftersales requirements.
- Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, control panel drawings and technical documentation.
- Assisting with factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing where required.
- Producing clear technical notes, service reports and commissioning documentation.
- Helping identify improvements to system design, build quality, reliability and support processes.
- Working in line with company quality, health and safety and engineering standards., * Varied and interesting work across material handling, drives and automation projects.

Requirements
- Electrical, controls, automation or commissioning experience within an industrial environment.
- Experience with Lift, material handling systems, conveyors, automation equipment or similar machinery.
- Good understanding of variable speed drives, motors, sensors, safety circuits and control panels.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Practical fault-finding ability across electrical and control system equipment.
- Confidence working with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams.
- Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly.
- Organised, dependable and able to manage workload effectively.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites when required.
Desirable Experience
- Experience commissioning material handling, conveyor or automation systems.
- Knowledge of PLC control systems, HMIs or industrial networks.
- Experience with drive configuration, parameter setting and diagnostics.
- Experience with control panel testing, inspection or fault finding.
- Knowledge of industrial communications such as Profinet, Profibus, EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Modbus or CANbus.
- Experience supporting installation, service or maintenance teams.
- Familiarity with machinery safety, electrical standards or site commissioning procedures.
- Previous experience in logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, process, food production or similar industrial environments., * Practical and solution-focused.
