Our focus is delivering measurable business outcomes by improving operational efficiency, enabling proactive monitoring and predictive maintenance, mitigating catastrophic risk, and transforming building data into actionable insights through the intelligent integration of engineering, connected technologies, and AI-driven analytics., The Senior Building Automation Applications Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in New York, NY. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and engineering support for project managers, field technicians, and customers. This role is responsible for developing controls applications, programming, graphics, submittals, commissioning support, and engineering standards to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and consistently., * Lead all controls application engineering across the company.
- Review and approve system designs; develop and maintain engineering standards.
- Develop graphics standards and design or oversee complex graphics and operator user interfaces.
- Review all submittals and as-builts before release.
- Mentor engineering staff and standardize programming, templates, and documentation.
- Manage projects using project-management platforms - tracking open items, documenting activity, and coordinating field dispatch.
- Improve engineering processes and quality control.
Requirements
- Accredited engineering degree (equivalent experience will be considered), ideally with a mechanical engineering background.
- 8+ years of engineering experience in the building automation / controls industry.
- Deep understanding of mechanical and HVAC system operation.
- Expertise in the design and submission of control systems, control-system hardware, control sequences, and installation.
- Knowledge of low and line-voltage controls wiring, networking, and blueprint reading.
- Circuit design, and the ability to choose the correct equipment and controllers for the application.
- Controls-system troubleshooting - finding the problem in a system by reviewing programs, points, and data.
- Preparation of submittals and as-builts.
- Graphics design for building management systems - building clear, visually appealing, and intuitive operator interfaces, including animations and custom data-graphic objects.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to fully understand how a system works in order to display it correctly.
- Mentoring skills to motivate and supervise engineering and technical staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with higher-level object-oriented programming and software design - some programming experience beyond controls.
- Familiarity with Python, JavaScript, HTML, or a similar language.
- Using AI tools to build software and workflow automations.
- Proficiency in Visio; ability to create macros and custom programmed graphic objects.
- Photoshop / image-editing experience and a natural eye for visually appealing design.
- Remote server management.
- Distech, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, or Schneider controls experience.
- Niagara certification; Registered PE; CEM, other nationally recognized trade certifications.
- Experience with LON, BACnet, LoRa, or Modbus protocols.
