Job description
Participate in a structured COBOL training program to learn mainframe and legacy system development Write, test, and debug basic COBOL programs with guidance from senior developers Support maintenance and updates to existing mainframe applications (banking, insurance, or claims systems) Assist with analyzing business requirements and translating them into simple code changes Work with databases (DB2, VSAM, or similar) to read/write data Document code, processes, and updates clearly for team use Collaborate with team members, mentors, and business analysts during training and project work Participate in code reviews, team meetings, and ongoing learning sessions
Requirements
Bachelor's degree (or recent grad) in Computer Science, IT, MIS, or related field Basic understanding of programming concepts (any language: Java, Python, C++, etc.) Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Willingness and interest in learning COBOL and mainframe technologies Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment Detail-oriented with strong documentation habits
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Exposure to COBOL, mainframe, or legacy systems in school or training Internship or coursework involving programming or software development Familiarity with databases (SQL, DB2, etc.) Experience working in a structured or corporate environment (internships, projects, etc.) Interest in financial services, insurance, or healthcare systems (common COBOL environments)
