Job description

As a Senior API Platform Engineer, you will support the design, implementation, modernization, and sustainment of enterprise API gateway platforms supporting mission-critical federal systems. This role requires an experienced engineer with expertise in API management, platform engineering, cloud technologies, and enterprise integration. You will collaborate with software developers, infrastructure engineers, cybersecurity teams, and program stakeholders to build secure, scalable, and highly available API platforms that enable enterprise application integration and digital services.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who enjoys solving complex integration challenges while improving automation, platform reliability, and operational efficiency., * Design, configure, implement, and support enterprise API gateway platforms across development, testing, and production environments.

  • Configure API routing, security policies, authentication, authorization, certificates, traffic management, and API lifecycle services.
  • Support cloud, hybrid, and containerized platform deployments utilizing Kubernetes or OpenShift.
  • Collaborate with development teams to onboard APIs and implement secure integration patterns.
  • Troubleshoot platform performance, connectivity, availability, security, and integration issues.
  • Support platform modernization initiatives, migration activities, and technical refresh efforts.
  • Integrate gateway platforms with CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, and monitoring solutions.
  • Develop technical documentation including architecture diagrams, implementation guides, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in production releases, change management, validation, and operational readiness reviews.
  • Ensure all platform implementations comply with federal security requirements and organizational best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Seven (7) or more years supporting enterprise API management, middleware, integration, or platform engineering environments.
  • Experience with one or more enterprise API Gateway platforms including Kong, IBM webMethods, Apigee, MuleSoft, Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway, IBM API Connect, WSO2, Tyk, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with REST APIs, JSON, XML, OpenAPI, authentication protocols, and API lifecycle management.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and cloud-native deployments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and technical communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Federal agencies.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, or container orchestration.
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, or hybrid cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps, Zero Trust Architecture, and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience with observability platforms including AppDynamics, ELK, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Active Secret Clearance preferred.

Clearance Requirement

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.
