Job description
The Software Development Engineer - AI is a individual contributor and hands-on technical leader responsible for designing, building, and deploying AI and machine learning-powered digital experiences across Caremark's platforms.
The Software Engineer - AI designs, develops, and implements AI/ML solutions and systems by applying advanced technical expertise to architect and code intelligent applications, conduct system testing and debugging, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the overall technical direction and innovation of AI engineering projects.
What you will do
Leverages expertise to design and implement efficient, scalable AI/ML solutions that meet business requirements and quality standards.
Contributes to solution design and architecture discussions for AI/ML systems, collaborating with architects and senior engineers.
Provides input on technical feasibility, model performance, and scalability considerations to ensure the overall solution meets the desired objectives.
Participates in code reviews and ensures adherence to coding standards, best practices, and quality guidelines.
Communicates and coordinates with team members to ensure alignment, provide technical insights, and contribute to decision-making processes.
Contributes to the adoption of best practices, new AI/ML technologies, and tools, including generative AI and agentic frameworks, to enhance productivity, efficiency, and code quality.
Participates in knowledge sharing activities, such as code reviews, tech talks, and workshops, to foster a culture of learning and collaboration within the team.
Works with other developers and team members to implement complex AI-powered features, enhance existing functionality, and ensure the delivery of high-quality code.
Provides guidance and mentorship to junior developers, helping them improve their technical skills and grow professionally.
Requirements
2-3 + years work experience

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
2-3 + years of hands-on software engineering experience, including building and deploying machine learning models.
Strong proficiency in Python and experience with an ML framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn).
Working knowledge of generative AI and large language models (LLMs), including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and vector databases/embeddings.
Experience with agentic AI frameworks and conversational AI/NLP systems.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS) and MLOps/CI-CD pipelines for model deployment and monitoring.
Experience with REST and/or GraphQL API development.
Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals-data structures, algorithms, design patterns., Bachelor's degree preferred/specialized training/relevant professional qualification.
Benefits & conditions
$72,100.00 - $144,200.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
