Job description
Leadership at HII is a mindset, not a title. Through our Leadership Capability Framework, we define how every employee grows, leads, and contributes-regardless of role. It sets the standard for how you can develop yourself and what you can expect from leaders across our organization. We look for candidates who want to grow in alignment with these capabilities:
- Know & Grow Your People - Commit to learning and supporting team success.
- Build Relationships - Communicate openly, collaborate well, and build trust.
- Take Ownership - Deliver on commitments and take pride in your work.
- Customer First - Focus on the mission and those we serve.
- Shape the Future - Bring ideas, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
- Act with Urgency - Take initiative and follow through with purpose.
These capabilities guide how all employees contribute to our shared success across Mission Technologies.
HII Mission Technologies is seeking a highly experienced engineering and software-systems leader to support the design, integration, testing, sustainment, and delivery of advanced DoD simulation, training, avionics, and command and control systems. This role is ideal for a proven technical leader with deep expertise across aircraft simulation, distributed training environments, hardware/software integration, and customer-facing program execution. The successful candidate will operate across engineering, program management, systems integration, and customer stakeholder communities to deliver reliable, mission-focused capabilities for the American warfighter.
- Provide senior leadership across the full software and systems engineering lifecycle, from requirements definition through field support and sustainment.
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting simulation, training, avionics, and mission system programs, ensuring alignment with mission needs and contract milestones.
- Translate customer operational requirements into clear engineering tasks, project plans, schedules, risks, and deliverables.
- Drive software intensive system design, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation for simulation networks, C2 environments, and distributed mission operations.
- Collaborate closely with government customers, engineers, vendors, and mission partners to resolve technical challenges and maintain execution momentum.
- Plan and manage Agile execution strategies, including iterative development, milestone tracking, risk management, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as a senior technical advisor to customers and leadership, supporting requirements generation, proposals, integration strategies, and feasibility assessments.
- Mentor and develop engineering talent while fostering a collaborative, accountable, mission focused culture.
- Manage hardware/software development, procurement, assembly, configuration, and sustainment across multiple locations.
- Support live, virtual, and constructive training events with on-site technical leadership and system-readiness oversight.
- Analyze system capabilities, test results, and user feedback to resolve complex integration and performance issues.
- Operate independently with consultative direction, identifying solutions and communicating progress to customers and internal leaders.
- Represent HII as a trusted technical and programmatic advisor on advanced simulation, avionics, and mission-training initiatives.
