Job description

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Surface Mount Manufacturing Supervisor / Manager to oversee daily SMT production operations. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient workflow, high product quality, equipment performance, and compliance with safety and manufacturing standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in SMT/PCB electronics manufacturing, leadership skills, and the ability to support a fast-paced production environment. This person will supervise SMT operators and technicians while driving improvements in productivity, yield, quality, and process reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee daily SMT manufacturing operations, including screen printing, pick-and-place, reflow, AOI, and SPI

Ensure production schedules are completed on time and meet quality standards

Monitor SMT line performance, throughput, downtime, and overall efficiency

Coordinate job changeovers, line setups, and production priorities

Lead, coach, train, and support SMT operators and technicians

Assign daily work, manage staffing levels, and approve timecards and overtime as needed

Conduct performance reviews and assist with disciplinary actions when required

Promote teamwork, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement on the production floor

Ensure compliance with applicable IPC standards, including IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001

Partner with Quality and Engineering teams to resolve defects, yield issues, and production challenges

Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions, including RCA/CAPA

Monitor solder paste quality, component placement accuracy, and reflow profiles

Oversee SMT equipment operation, including printers, placement machines, reflow ovens, conveyors, and AOI systems

Coordinate preventive maintenance, equipment calibrations, and troubleshooting support

Escalate equipment failures and work with maintenance, engineering, or vendors to minimize downtime

Maintain production documentation, work instructions, and process compliance

Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and process reliability

Requirements

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Electronics, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience

3 to 7+ years of experience in SMT/PCB electronics manufacturing

1 to 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred

Strong knowledge of SMT processes, including screen printing, pick-and-place, reflow, AOI, and SPI

Ability to read and interpret PCB drawings, BOMs, and work instructions

Familiarity with MES/ERP systems

Understanding of reflow profiling and stencil design

Knowledge of IPC standards, especially IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to lead teams, resolve production issues, and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment

Strong problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis and corrective actions

Detail-oriented, safety-focused, and committed to quality

Preferred Skills

Prior experience supervising SMT operators or technicians

Experience with preventive maintenance and SMT equipment troubleshooting

Familiarity with yield improvement, downtime reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives

Experience working with Quality and Engineering teams in an electronics manufacturing environment
