Job description

The job of IT Architect is done for the purpose/s of responsibility for the overall design of computer based network systems including LAN, WAN, Intranet segments, and other data communications systems; testing of new technology based systems (devices, computers, software and solutions) implementation, management, security compliance and verification, as well as maintenance of Networking components throughout the District. Designs and supports Networking systems and supporting monitoring software for the network systems. Provides support for day-to-day operation of network LAN and WAN functionality with diverse networks. Train technical staff on deployment methods, network troubleshooting, best practices. Ensure security compliance of servers and workstations in accordance with Information Technology guidelines. Write test plans, integration plans, and guides for technologies and services being deployed. Oversees planning new network systems and services, analyzing impact on existing resources. Maintain support contracts of network hardware. Participates in making key decisions in relation to updating network devices, virus protection, new technology deployment, and maintaining existing District servers security. Works with IT support staff throughout the District to assist in supporting enterprise system. This job reports to Assigned Supervisor Essential Functions

  • Administers district policies regarding use of computers and data access (e.g. updating Directory Service Client and Email Client, set passwords, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with district policy and departmental guidelines.
  • Conceptualizes design, analyze and test computer system based device networks (e.g. internet, intranet, application servers, content filtering, firewall, DMZ, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring secure, effective, and efficient systems.
  • Develops user job aids and on-line library of supplemental instructions for the purpose of enhancing staff ability to utilize computer software applications.
  • Interacts with the District Technology Infrastructure Director and team for the purpose of installing, configuring and troubleshooting Firewall hardware, content filters, network and or device management systems,routers, switches and application servers for the purpose of supporting the District WAN and LAN connectivity in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. permission levels, network identification and documentation of the production environment, security access and Non Disclosure Agreements (NDA's) licenses, work logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing reference and audit trails.
  • Maintains network and network monitoring application servers updated and server functionality (e.g. suggests patches and/or upgrades, support integration with Identity Management solutions (IDM), Directory Services, Email Service, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accountability of access of district network, desktop and server functionality for all users.
  • Maintains network operations and software applications (e.g. servers, District backups, disaster recovery, routine maintenance, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective systems and operations.
  • Monitors the status of the District wide area networks and site level local area networks for the purpose of ensuring availability of network files and peripheral devices.
  • Participates in ensuring availability of network files and peripheral devices for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Performs initial server and router set-ups (e.g. installation, testing, configuring, assigning passwords, security clearances, etc.) for the purpose of meeting best practice network security for the district networks, and the basic computer processing needs of the users.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. procedures, documentation, reports, memos, letters, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Provides training and inservice in general computer use and/or security, software applications, and file server operations for the purpose of the efficient network use, use of computers and/or software application.
  • Researches current and emerging technologies for the purpose of improving District functioning.
  • Responds to inquires from the Technology Department staff for the purpose of providing support of district implemented production system solutions and applications.
  • Responds to inquires from a Technology Department Directors for the purpose of providing testing, analysis, support and technical advice and operational assistance.
  • Responds to requests for help, repairs, training, and/or upgrades, etc. by telephone or e-mail for the purpose of providing information, scheduling appointments and/or referring to alternate resources.
  • Troubleshoots issues with user computer workstations and District servers (e.g. questions about application software, connectivity issues, peripheral malfunctions, etc.) for the purpose of providing maximum availability of service.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Certificates CompTIA, Security+, CCISP or equivalent Training Maintains Certificates and/or Licenses as needed to maintain District Directory and email functionality, content filtering and LDAP authentication
