Job description
As a Principal API Automation Engineer, you will lead the design and development of enterprise automation solutions supporting API lifecycle management, platform configuration, deployment automation, and developer enablement. This role requires deep expertise in software development, DevSecOps, and automation technologies to improve consistency, security, and operational efficiency across enterprise API platforms.
The successful candidate will work closely with software engineers, DevOps teams, platform engineers, and cybersecurity personnel to deliver reusable automation capabilities that accelerate secure application delivery and enterprise integration., * Design and develop automation supporting API onboarding, deployment, configuration, governance, and lifecycle management.
- Build reusable Infrastructure as Code, configuration templates, scripts, and deployment workflows.
- Integrate automation with enterprise CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps processes.
- Develop automated validation for API specifications, security policies, governance standards, and operational readiness.
- Support developer portal integrations, API catalogs, and self-service onboarding capabilities.
- Collaborate with platform engineering teams to improve deployment consistency and operational efficiency.
- Troubleshoot automation, deployment, and pipeline integration issues.
- Develop technical documentation including implementation guides, automation runbooks, and standards documentation.
- Support migration and modernization initiatives for enterprise API platforms.
- Ensure automation solutions comply with federal cybersecurity and software development standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline.
- Seven (7) or more years developing enterprise automation, software applications, or DevSecOps solutions.
- Experience developing automation using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
- Experience with CI/CD platforms, Git, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab.
- Experience supporting API platforms, REST services, OpenAPI, JSON, and enterprise integration technologies.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management concepts.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience supporting Kong, IBM webMethods, Apigee, MuleSoft, Azure API Management, or AWS API Gateway.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or OpenShift.
- Familiarity with Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates, or Ansible.
- Experience supporting federal government DevSecOps initiatives.
- Knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture and NIST security controls.
Clearance Requirement
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.
