Our Belgium payroll team sits within a broader HR function that lives by three values: lead, deliver, care. As Interim Payroll Team Lead, you will guide a small, dedicated team responsible for accurate and timely payroll for approximately 300 blue- and white-collar employees, reporting directly to the Head of Payroll Segment.
This is a hybrid role based at our Belgium office (3 days in the office per week), offering the perfect balance of collaboration and flexibility. You'll be at the heart of people operations - partnering with Finance, HR, and external providers to deliver a seamless payroll experience every month., Reporting to: Head of Payroll Segment These are some of the key components to the position:
- Lead and coordinate the Belgium payroll team - allocating workload, sharing knowledge, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellent customer service.
- Deliver accurate, on-time monthly payroll for all employees, covering starters, leavers, permanent and variable changes, absence, and all associated deductions.
- Reconcile tax and social security submissions; ensure filings and payments meet regulatory deadlines with zero errors.
- Manage and validate payroll data, maintain detailed checklists, and prepare materials for manager sign-off at submission, pre-approval, and month-end/quarter-end.
- Act as the primary point of contact for payroll queries via the People Portal, resolving issues promptly and with a values-aligned customer-service mindset.
- Oversee payroll provider relationships, monitor SLA adherence, review output reports, and verify GL accuracy.
- Support delivery of the annual benefits calendar and drive continuous improvement of payroll processes and systems.
Requirements
- Solid, proven payroll experience gained in a fast-paced, high-volume environment - you know Belgian payroll inside out.
- A demonstrated track record of leading a cohesive team: you inspire by example, delegate with confidence, and bring out the best in those around you.
- Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills - approachable, discreet, and able to build trusted relationships at every level of the business.
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities; you juggle competing deadlines without dropping the ball.
- Advanced Excel proficiency (PivotTables, VLOOKUP) and comfort working with complex data sets and payroll systems.
- Up-to-date knowledge of Belgian payroll legislation, tax, and social security requirements.
