Job description

  • Transform customer designs into 3D models and assemblies using CAD software.
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings from customer specifications.
  • Carry out in-process inspection to ensure accuracy, quality, and manufacturability.
  • Liaise directly with customers and suppliers to clarify technical requirements and resolve design queries.
  • Requisition job-specific materials and support the purchasing process.
  • Work closely with the Sales Team to interpret drawings, specifications, and customer expectations.
  • Collaborate with Production and Tooling to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and aligned with manufacturing capabilities.
  • Use and maintain standard directories for parts, assemblies, and ancillary components.
  • Apply and improve standard drawing templates and engineering methods across the department.
  • Champion "one best way" by promoting consistency, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Investigate and implement design-for-manufacture improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce production complexity.
  • Support cross-department teamwork by sharing knowledge, ideas, and technical insight.
  • Engage with shop floor teams to understand processes, constraints, and opportunities for improvement.

Requirements

We're looking for someone who is technically strong, highly organised, and confident working both independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team. Excellent communication skills, solid IT capability, and proven experience with CAD software are essential., * A Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths and English with A-Levels or equivalent
  • Membership of a Professional Engineering Institution (desirable)
  • Prior experience in manufacturing environment (desirable)
  • Proven experience in a Design Engineer role within manufacturing or fabrication
  • Strong CAD capability (3D modelling and 2D drawing)
  • Experience using SolidWorks is required, including 3D modelling, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Confident collaborating across departments and with external stakeholders
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for problem-solving and continuous improvement

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
