HM Land Registry (HMLR) are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer Security to join our Digital, Data and Technology directorate. This is a specialist role within our IT Operations Practice, where you will help design, implement and enhance security controls that protect our critical services and infrastructure.
You will play an important role in maintaining and improving the resilience, integrity and security of our systems, working collaboratively with technical teams, stakeholders and suppliers to ensure our services remain secure and fit for the future., The IT Operations Practice is responsible for the performance and delivery of all technical infrastructure that underpins HMLRs services. It brings together a range of teams who support, monitor and operate our systems, ensuring reliability and continuous service improvement.
Within this practice sits a well-established Security function, responsible for safeguarding HMLRs platforms and systems. This includes managing identity and access controls, supporting applications and services, and leading on incident response, monitoring and threat detection across the organisation.
As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer within the Security cluster, you will be responsible for supporting, designing and implementing technical security controls across the IT Operations landscape. You will contribute to the development of secure, modern services and provide expert advice to ensure our technology continues to meet both business and security needs. - Work with internal teams, IT partners and suppliers to develop, test and implement secure and innovative technical solutions
- Act as a subject matter expert, resolving complex technical issues arising from operational incidents and development activities
- Clearly communicate how your teams work impacts other technical areas, end users and stakeholders
- Promote an inclusive, collaborative working environment, effectively managing conflict and non-inclusive behaviours where they arise
- Act as a technical and behavioural role model within the IT Operations Practice
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the practice, supporting collaboration and cohesion across teams
- Design and build systems using modern development standards and security best practices
- Create and implement robust test plans and assurance activities to ensure quality and resilience
- Develop and maintain security and vulnerability tooling to increase awareness of risks and threats
- Use automation, scripting and coding to optimise system performance and strengthen operational efficiency
- Provide advice to operational teams on security controls, working closely with Lead Infrastructure Engineers and security colleagues
- Support service enhancements through the development of secure, scalable designs aligned to modern standards
- Engage with project teams to provide security assurance at key delivery stages
- Undertake threat intelligence and cyber threat analysis to inform control improvements and response actions
Additional Requirements
- This role can be based at Plymouth (Seaton Court), Croydon, Gloucester or within Wales
- Occasional travel will be required to HMLR offices, supplier sites and other government departments, which may include overnight stays
- There will be a requirement for occasional planned out-of-hours working to support IT changes and maintenance
- Participation in an on-call rota may be required
- This role operates under the flexible working hours agreement, supporting a positive work-life balance

Requirements
- Holds a qualification in Information Technology or a related area (Degree level or equivalent) or significant experience in an IT field.
- Advanced skills in the management of at least three of a range of security technologies such as:-SIEM, Defender, Sentinel, EDR-XDR, Certificate authorities, AD, Mainframe security, Nessus, DDoS, WAF, LDAP, HSMs, PAM, ID, AWS IAM, Entra or other similar technology.
- Extensive knowledge in the operation of security controls in either Windows, Linux, Mainframe or cloud services such as AWS or Azure,
Essential Experience:
- Experience of information gathering, analysis and problem solving of technical issues.
- Ability to manage technical security risks and lead on implementing appropriate mitigations.
- Experience in the design and implementation of security systems and controls.
- Following established processes to apply best security standards and practice.
- Experience in threat analysis and security incident response.
- Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks and work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong leadership demonstrated through coaching or mentoring.
