Job description
We're recruiting a Backend Developer to join our tech team. You'll work closely with our Front-end developer to build and support the platform's database, backend logic, and integrations, We're looking for someone strong on the backend to help us build the core systems and data structures that power our platform. Familiarity with front-end development and design is a bonus., * Design, build, and maintain our database structure to support core platform features and user data
- Set up and manage authentication and access control, ensuring users can only access their own data
- Build and maintain backend logic and APIs to support the platform's core features
- Integrate third-party services as needed (e.g. payments, email, notifications)
- Collaborate closely with our front-end developer to connect the interface to backend data
- Support basic front-end tasks (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) when needed
- Help troubleshoot and maintain the platform post-launch
- Contribute to decisions on tools, structure, and technical direction.
Requirements
- Highly proficient in English
- Genuine interest in sustainability, permaculture, eco-living, and/or conscious lifestyles
- Strong time management and organisational skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage with a global audience
- Proven prior experience in a relevant field, * Strong SQL and relational database design skills (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Experience with backend-as-a-service platforms such as Supabase, Firebase, or similar (or strong Postgres experience and willingness to learn Supabase)
- Solid understanding of authentication, authorization, and access control best practices
- Comfortable working with APIs and connecting frontend to backend systems
- Working knowledge of JavaScript
- Familiarity with Git/version control
- Basic HTML/CSS knowledge (helpful, not primary requirement)
- Comfortable working in an early-stage, fast-moving environment with a small team
- Genuine interest in sustainability, permaculture, eco-living, and/or conscious lifestyles
- Highly proficient in English
- Permanent right to work in the UK, or eligible to work remotely from Europe
