Job description
We are looking for a Data Engineer who combines strong technical delivery with the confidence to work directly with customers. This is not a purely back-office engineering role: you will build and maintain data pipelines and architecture, and you will also sit in front of customers to explain how their data can be structured, managed, and turned into value.
The heart of the role - You act as the technical bridge between our engineering team and the customers we serve - translating architecture decisions into language customers can act on.
R E S P O N S I B I L I T I E S
Duties and responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines, integrations, and storage solutions across customer and internal systems.
- Contribute to data architecture decisions, working with senior engineers to design scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
- Act as a technical point of contact for customers: join calls and workshops to discuss their data needs, systems, and goals.
- Translate technical data concepts into clear, non-technical language so customers understand what is possible and why.
- Advise customers on how their data can be managed, structured, and governed, and what insights or value they can realistically get from it.
- Produce clear documentation covering data flows, architecture decisions, and customer-specific configurations.
- Monitor data quality, pipeline performance, and reliability, and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Work closely with product, customer success, and sales teams to scope technical requirements during onboarding and ongoing accounts.
Requirements
- Experience in a data engineering, analytics engineering, or data architecture role.
- Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with at least one major programming language used for data work (e.g. Python).
- Practical experience designing or contributing to data architecture - pipelines, warehousing, ETL/ELT, data modelling.
- Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure preferred) and modern data tooling.
- Comfort communicating directly with non-technical customers - explaining trade-offs, options, and recommendations clearly and confidently.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to reason through a customer's data landscape and propose a workable structure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
- Prior experience in a customer-facing, consulting, or solutions engineering capacity.
- Familiarity with data governance, privacy, and compliance considerations (e.g. GDPR).
- Experience presenting technical material to varied audiences, from technical leads to business stakeholders.
