Job description

The Workstation Specialist position with PennDOT District 3 in Lycoming County involves advanced PC installation, support, and troubleshooting to assist IT teams in supporting users across multiple offices, field sites, and remote locations within a five-county region. The role requires hands-on technical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while traveling frequently to various sites. Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot PC hardware, peripherals, and software in networked and stand-alone environments.
  • Provide Tier 2 support for hardware and software issues across District 3 offices, construction field sites, stockpiles, and other remote locations.
  • Install and support Cisco VPN routers and CISCO AnyConnect VPN software.
  • Assign workstation names using Active Directory and manage enterprise user accounts.
  • Install, test, and upgrade PC equipment including memory, hard drives, and I/O cards.
  • Plan, schedule, and track hardware deployments and maintain accurate equipment inventory.
  • Install and troubleshoot Cat5e/6 network cabling, terminations, and patching.
  • Provide end-user training on new equipment and software.
  • Respond to workstation-related trouble calls both on-site and remotely via phone or email.
  • Use Remedy ticketing system to create and update support tickets and asset management records.
  • Support mobile iOS devices including configuration, troubleshooting, and monitoring via MDM Console.
  • Support telecommunication equipment and services including VoIP, audio/video conferencing, smartboards, and unified communications.
  • Document technical processes and recommend efficiency improvements.
  • Travel to multiple PennDOT locations within the district and occasionally to other districts for training or support., * Position is 100% onsite with equipment pickup and badging at the Montoursville District 3 Office.
  • Extensive travel required across nine counties and various field sites, including active construction and stockpile areas.
  • Must comply with government equipment usage restrictions, including prohibition of equipment use outside the United States.
  • Candidate must be able to work in fast-paced, multitasking environments and follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • First round interviews conducted via Teams with strict identity verification and room scan requirements.

Scheduling:

  • Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
  • Core business hours generally fall within 7 AM to 5 PM, with exact schedule to be discussed during the interview.

Requirements

  • Valid driver s license and use of personal vehicle for travel and equipment transport.
  • Minimum 4 years experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting PC hardware/software in enterprise LAN/WAN environments.
  • Minimum 4 years experience supporting laptops, docking stations, and multifunction print devices.
  • Minimum 2 years experience with Remedy or similar ticketing systems.
  • Minimum 2 years experience with premise cabling including Cat5e/Cat6 cable installation and terminations.
  • Ability to read and follow technical manuals, schematics, and documented processes in English.
  • Strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the district and occasionally outside for training and support.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

  • Experience with Cisco VPN router installation and support.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory and Hyena System Management Software.
  • Experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
  • Strong technical writing skills for creating process documentation.
  • Project management experience and leadership in team deployments.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and electrical plans for facility remodeling or construction.
