Job description
- Lead and execute monthly close activities according to the fuels business closing calendar.
- Prepare and post recurring and ad hoc journal entries, including inventory accruals, intercompany transactions, deferred drydock, lease, and prepaid amortizations.
- Perform detailed GL reconciliations for inventory, clearing accounts, accruals, prepaids, and bank accounts.
- Validate data feeds between Ascend, Vertrax, and Oracle, ensuring accurate mapping and resolving suspense postings.
- Partner with Operations and IT teams to support system transition activities, including testing, reconciliation, and process documentation.
- Verify terminal and vessel fuel inventory quantities, valuations, and cost allocations.
- Manage purchase order accruals and reversals to ensure proper cost recognition and period cut-off.
- Review and reconcile intercompany transactions across multiple entities.
- Support Form 730 fuel tax filings by ensuring accurate and compliant data preparation.
- Prepare monthly terminal and cost center reports for finance and operational stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, data mapping, reporting workflows, and system integration procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong experience with general ledger accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Experience with ERP systems and system integrations; Oracle experience preferred.
- Ability to analyze complex financial data, identify discrepancies, and resolve mapping or reconciliation issues.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across Finance, Operations, and IT teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within fuel distribution, logistics, marine operations, or related industries.
- Hands-on experience supporting ERP migrations or integrations (ideally Ascend * Vertrax * Oracle).
- Knowledge of fuel excise tax processes, including Form 730 reporting.
- Experience with inventory accounting, cost allocations, and operational finance processes.
Pay: $71.00 - $95.00 per hour
