Based in Franklin, TN, AVLX designs, installs, and supports professional Audio, Video, Lighting, and broadcast systems for churches, schools, performance venues, and commercial spaces.
Our design team supports projects from early conception through final installation documentation, helping turn ideas into clear, buildable systems. We value high level thinkers who have an easy going, get it done work ethic., AVLX is looking for an AVL System Design Engineer to join our team.
This role is responsible for creating design documents, system drawings, and technical documentation that communicate the full intent and detail of an AVL system. The Design Engineer will support projects throughout their full lifecycle, including sales support, system design, construction documentation, installation handoff, and client coordination.
This position requires strong technical understanding, attention to detail, and the ability to create accurate drawings that help our installation teams, construction partners, and clients clearly understand how a system should be built and supported.
Responsibilities
- Create AVL system drawings, schematics, signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, cable schedules, equipment layouts, and construction documents
- Develop infrastructure drawings for conduit, cable pathways, power, mounting, rigging, and future system needs
- Model audio, video, lighting, speaker, and house lighting systems using appropriate software
- Support calculations related to electrical loads, heat loads, rigging weights, equipment placement, and system coverage
- Work with project teams to develop equipment lists and assist with scope of work documents
- Coordinate with architects, general contractors, structural engineers, electrical engineers, clients, and internal AVLX teams
- Support design-for-sale efforts with preliminary layouts, models, and technical documentation
- Identify design conflicts, construction concerns, and documentation gaps before they create issues in the field
- Prepare clear, complete installation handoff packages for project managers and installation crews
- Maintain drawing standards, templates, and documentation consistency across projects
Requirements
- 3-5 years of design-level experience in AVL system design, commercial AV integration, low-voltage design, drafting, or related technical work
- Strong understanding of audio, video, and lighting systems
- Experience creating schematics, cable schedules, signal flow diagrams, equipment layouts, rack elevations, and construction documents
- Ability to read and produce reflected ceiling plans, infrastructure drawings, and technical documentation
- Strong organization, communication, and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and quality
Key Software & Skills
- Proficiency in Vectorworks is a must
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, and/or Revit is a plus
- Familiarity with AVIXA standards, NEC code, low-voltage standards, or electrical principles is a plus
- CTS, CTS-D, or CTS-I certification is a plus, * Degree in electrical engineering, audio engineering, drafting, systems engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Experience designing systems for churches, performing arts venues, schools, broadcast spaces, or commercial environments
- Background in commercial AV integration, systems engineering, or AVL infrastructure design
