Job description
WellAware runs a large fleet of connected industrial assets, and the data it generates is messy, high-volume, and underused. We are hiring an engineer to build the tooling that turns that raw operational data into something our team and our products can act on - the exploration tools, the data pipelines, and the derived indicators that everything downstream depends on.
This is a builder role. The hard part here is not the model; it is the tooling and the data. You will spend most of your time mining operational data, building tools to explore and make sense of it, and turning what you find into reusable pieces - pre-computed derivatives and layered indicators that both our dashboards and our automated agents can consume.
You will start with concrete, well-scoped problems rather than an open-ended architecture mandate. A representative first project: build a tool that identifies which devices in the fleet are offline and classifies why. That one problem stands in for dozens like it - together they cover most of how we watch and run the fleet, and they free the team from manually monitoring devices after every firmware release. The work feeds our regression and ML pipelines and surfaces signals for both customers and product development., · Mine the platform's operational data and build the tooling to explore it - log-exploration and data-mining tools that are more efficient and trustworthy than pointing raw data at a model.
· Build pre-computed derivatives and layered indicators (offline reason, offline frequency, fleet- and industry-level patterns) that dashboards and agents both consume, rather than querying raw tables.
· Deliver an offline-device classification tool as a first concrete project, then the next well-scoped problems behind it.
· Expose data through clean APIs/MCP so that any query or filter a person can run, an agent can run too.
· Feed tool outputs into regression and ML pipelines, and surface client-side and product-development signals from them.
· Maintain and extend the database, derived-data layer, and front-end tooling that the AI products and new-market expansion depend on.
· Support ad-hoc data extraction and reporting across the organization, translating data questions from any team into reliable answers.
Requirements
· A generalist engineer who builds tools - comfortable across data modeling, pipelines, and front-end, not specialized in one narrow layer.
· Real data-mining experience in a messy, high-stakes domain (e.g., fraud or security analytics).
· Strong SQL skills (preferred), with the ability to query data directly to support reporting and ad-hoc analysis across the organization.
· Proficiency with OpenAPI specifications and REST API concepts for data retrieval and integration.
· Experience with a cloud data platform such as Databricks, Snowflake, or Microsoft Fabric is a plus.
· Experience with AWS-based data warehousing and data lake environments is a plus.
· BI tool experience is a plus, particularly Power BI.
Desired
· AWS, including data warehousing and data lake services alongside Bedrock, SageMaker, and related AI/ML services.
· Log-exploration / data-mining tooling (Splunk-style raw-data exploration).
· API frameworks (OpenAPI / REST, MCP) for data retrieval and for exposing data to people and agents.
· SQL and BI tooling (Power BI a plus).
· The platform data layer (databases, data platform integration) and the Lift portal.
