Job description

POSITION SUMMARY We're looking for a skilled, adaptable generalist to own the day-to-day IT infrastructure for a historic nonprofit organization in the Boston area. You'll work closely with the Senior Director of IT to maintain and improve on-premises systems, lead cloud migrations, manage vendors, and support a diverse 120-person staff. This is a broad, hands-on role - not a siloed specialty position. If your instinct when something breaks is to escalate to another team, this isn't the right fit. If you own it end-to-end, it is., Systems & Network Management

  • Maintain and optimize on-premises server infrastructure including Windows Server, VMware/hypervisor, and SAN
  • Manage system backups, upgrades, and disaster recovery
  • Oversee the full network stack - firewalls, switches, wireless LAN, VLANs, VPN, and ISP services
  • Troubleshoot and resolve server, application, and network issues

Cloud Migration & Integration

  • Serve as technical lead for migration from on-prem to cloud-based solutions (Azure, M365, SaaS)
  • Develop a cloud adoption roadmap with the Senior Director of IT
  • Integrate cloud services with on-prem systems; monitor and optimize cloud usage and costs

Security & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with PCI-DSS, Mass. 201 CMR 17.00, and NIST SP 800
  • Implement and manage security measures: encryption, network segmentation, vulnerability management
  • Work toward a ZTNA security model including IDS/IPS and MFA
  • Maintain RBAC, configuration management, and DR/BC practices

Project & Vendor Management

  • Lead infrastructure projects from concept through execution - on time and within budget
  • Manage third-party vendors and cloud providers; ensure SLAs are met

Coordinate hardware, software, and cloud services procurement

Requirements

  • 5+ years in IT infrastructure/sysadmin - generalist background required
  • Windows Server administration (2016/2019)
  • Meraki (LAN switching + wifi)
  • Azure and Microsoft 365 administration
  • Network fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, VPN, routing
  • PCI-DSS or compliance framework experience
  • Comfortable owning problems end-to-end without escalation, * Experience in a smaller org or nonprofit environment preferred - candidates from hyper-specialized Fortune 500 roles typically are not a fit
  • Azure certifications
  • SASE/ZTNA experience
  • Hyper-V or VMware
  • SQL Server basics
  • PowerShell, Terraform, or Ansible
  • ITIL knowledge
  • SAN/iSCSI experience
  • Spanish proficiency (tech support context)

Benefits & conditions

580 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA 02138 Hybrid work $110,000 - $130,000 a year - Full-time

About the company

Mount Auburn Cemetery is the first rural, or garden, cemetery in the United States, located on the line between Cambridge and Watertown 4 miles west of Boston. It is the burial site of many prominent Bostonians as well as being a National Historic Landmark. Dedicated in 1831 and set with classical monuments in a rolling landscaped terrain, it marked a distinct break with Colonial-era burying grounds and church-affiliated graveyards. The 175-acre cemetery is important both for its historical aspects and for its role as botanic garden. It is Watertown's largest contiguous open space and extends into Cambridge to the east. It was designated a National Historic Landmark District in 2003.
