Role details
Job location
Tech stack
Job description
You will oversee a diverse application ecosystem that combines established .NET/C# and Angular technologies with a modern Python, Node.js, and React development stack. The role requires maintaining and enhancing existing business-critical applications while driving the incremental adoption of modern architectures and agent-enabled development practices. Success in this role means delivering modernization at a sustainable pace without compromising system reliability or business continuity., As an Engineering Manager, you will lead from the keyboard, own technical direction, and keep delivery predictable while balancing modernization with stability.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Contribute code weekly using agents; hands-on technical execution is a core responsibility of the role, not an optional activity
- Own, version, and continuously improve the domain's agent operating instructions
- Review pull requests and provide timely, actionable technical feedback
- Directly remediate, ship, and manage the team's technical debt backlog rather than solely delegating it
- Route well-bounded tasks to the most effective executor-an agent, an engineer, or yourself
- Leverage agentic SDLC practices to increase throughput on bounded components with well-defined interfaces
- Keep coordination lean and outcome-focused, identifying dependencies and risks early
- Serve as the primary owner of the team's technical direction, architecture decisions, and long-term technical health
- Define and drive the technical roadmap, balancing new feature delivery, modernization initiatives, and technical debt reduction
- Own both the legacy .NET/C# and Angular components and the modern Python/Node/React stack, leading phased modernization while maintaining stability for business-critical systems
- Hire engineers for the team and maintain a high bar for technical talent
- Evaluate and develop engineers through regular feedback, coaching, and growth planning
- Coach the team to work effectively and responsibly with AI agents
- Uphold engineering principles across the full software lifecycle, including design, development, testing, release, and operations
- Lead the practical adoption of agentic SDLC practices with clear human-in-the-loop quality, testing, security, and governance controls
- Apply documented verification protocols appropriate to each artifact type, including code, tests, documentation, and infrastructure
- Run evaluations prior to merge and retain human-controlled approval and merge authority for production branches
- Maintain strong automated test coverage across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
- Track and report key engineering metrics, including required reporting to Atlassian Compass
- Facilitate bi-weekly demonstrations from the cloud environment, showcasing both product capabilities and agent-assisted workflows
- Partner closely with the dedicated production support organization, which owns frontline product operations
- Deliver the tooling, automation, and runbooks required to operate and support the product effectively
- Reduce operational toil through automation, including agent-assisted workflows where appropriate
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of WIZ Critical and Major findings and ensure timely remediation within established SLAs
- Implement explicit guardrails, blast-radius controls, and audit trails for all production-impacting automation
- Keep architecture documentation, architectural decision records (ADRs), runbooks, and agent operating instructions accurate and current
Requirements
This is a hands-on engineering management role for an experienced tech lead who wants to step up without leaving the keyboard. As an Engineering Manager, you will lead 1-3 teams of 3-6 full-stack engineers, serving as both their senior technical authority and people leader. You will contribute code, define technical strategy, and recruit, develop, and mentor engineers to help them grow and succeed. Agentic Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) has reshaped how engineering work gets done. With tasks becoming smaller, more clearly defined, and easier to distribute, an engineering manager's greatest impact comes from delivering hands-on solutions and orchestrating AI agents alongside the team, rather than coordinating handoffs. The ideal candidate is a strong technical practitioner who wants to amplify their impact, remains actively engaged in building, and is excited to leverage agents as part of the development process-not someone looking to step away from hands-on engineering., * An experienced tech lead who has led at least one team, ready to step into hands-on engineering management, including hiring and evaluating engineers, while continuing to build daily
- Strong proficiency in Python / Node / React stack for new development
- Experience maintaining and modernizing existing .NET / C# services and Angular frontends
- Demonstrated hands-on experience applying agentic SDLC in real production delivery workflows
- Proven ownership of the full development loop (build, test, release, operate, and iterate)
- Extensive experience with cloud-native applications on Azure (AWS and GCP experience is also acceptable)
- Hands-on experience with containerized workloads and orchestration.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Bicep, Terraform, Pulumi, or AWS CDK
- In-depth knowledge of test automation (unit, integration, e2e)
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD automation, required for full-stack delivery in this role
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and make significant technical contributions
- Proven track record of owning technical direction, architecture decisions, and a long-term technical roadmap
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- A genuine appetite for building with a small team and agents, and for continuous learning
To qualify for the role, you must have
- Bachelor's degree required (4-year degree) Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Economics and/or a master's degree in Accounting, Tax Technology, Management Information Systems, or Computer Science or related field.
- Typically, no less than 5 - 7 years relevant experience.
- You are required to have one of the following certifications: CPA, EA, JD, Master's degree in business administration, finance, economics, computer science, information systems or engineering, Quantitative Economics or Quants.
- Exposure to the financial services industry, accounting/finance/tax, tax or finance performance improvement, tax software development and/or implementation.
- Ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and monitoring them until completion, including documenting requirements, configuration, testing, debugging, project profitability, and tax systems and process configuration.
Ideally, you'll also have
- Familiarity with delivery and security tools such as GitHub, GitHub Actions, Atlassian Suite, SonarQube, Mend, Aqua Trivy, and WIZ.
- Experience working in a microfrontends environment is a strong nice to have.
- Strong understanding of component life cycles, unit testing, and resolving complex issues in full-stack development
What we look for
We are looking for a strong practitioner who wants bigger impact and is excited to build with agents. You should be able to lead through direct technical contribution, drive modernization in a mixed-stack environment, and grow engineers while maintaining quality, security, and predictable delivery.
