Job description
The Senior Systems Administrator owns the care and feeding of our clients' servers and networks - hands-on infrastructure work spanning Windows Hyper-V servers, storage, networking, and firewalls. Candidates must be located in the Portland, OR metro area for onsite client visits as needed (approximately 10-20% of time)., * Patch, update, and upgrade Windows Hyper-V servers, firewalls, storage, and network infrastructure across client environments
- Administer and maintain client servers and networks, including proactive monitoring, backups, and lifecycle upgrades
- Troubleshoot and remediate complex server, storage, virtualization, networking, and firewall issues
- Serve as senior escalation point for issues beyond L1/L2 scope, ensuring rapid resolution and minimal client impact
- Maintain strong ticket hygiene, documentation, and adherence to response-time SLAs
- Participate in after-hours emergency support and weekend maintenance windows as needed
- Mentor junior technicians through knowledge sharing and escalation support
Requirements
You will succeed a retiring senior team member, inheriting established and well-documented client environments. You will report to the Service Manager. This role serves as the senior escalation point beyond L1/L2 support. Requires 10+ years of MSP or IT infrastructure experience., * 10+ years of hands-on MSP or IT infrastructure experience
- Deep Windows Server and Hyper-V expertise - deployment, management, patching, and troubleshooting
- Storage administration (SAN/NAS, capacity management, backup solutions)
- Strong networking: VLANs, routing and switching, network design, and TCP/IP troubleshooting
- Firewall administration: configuration, rule management, and firmware updates
- PowerShell scripting for automation and remote management
- Active Directory and Microsoft 365 administration in multi-tenant MSP environments
- Experience with RMM and PSA platforms
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft (Azure Administrator Associate), CompTIA (Network+, Security+, Server+), or ITIL certifications
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to MSP clients (HIPAA, SOC 2, GDPR)
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
