Job description

Firstrade Securities is a U.S. retail brokerage serving investors globally. We're hiring an Associate Data Analyst to support data and reporting needs across the firm - product, marketing, operations, compliance, and executive leadership.

This is a hands-on, execution-focused role reporting directly to our senior data analyst, who will mentor you closely. You'll own the recurring reports and dashboards that different teams rely on day to day, handle ad hoc data requests, and grow into more advanced analytical work over time., * Build, maintain, and automate recurring reports and dashboards used by teams across the firm (product, marketing, operations, compliance, and the executive team)

  • Respond to ad hoc data requests - translating business questions into SQL queries and delivering clear, accurate answers
  • Write and optimize SQL against the firm's databases, ensuring data is accurate, consistent, and well-documented
  • QA your own and shared reports, and investigate discrepancies when metrics don't reconcile
  • Maintain documentation of key metrics, data definitions, and report logic so outputs stay consistent and repeatable
  • Support the senior analyst on larger strategic, competitive, and regulatory analyses - a structured opportunity to learn higher-level work
  • Partner with stakeholders across departments to clarify requirements and turn data into something they can act on

Requirements

It's an ideal role for someone with 1-2 years of analytics experience - ideally in finance, brokerage, or fintech - who wants to sharpen their technical skills and learn the brokerage business from the inside., * Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or analytical field (e.g., statistics, mathematics, economics, finance, data science, computer science, or similar)

  • 1-2 years of experience in a data or analytics role (strong internship experience plus ~1 year will be considered)
  • Solid, demonstrable SQL skills - comfortable with joins, aggregations, and moderately complex queries
  • Proficiency with Excel or Google Sheets (pivot tables, lookups, formulas)
  • Strong attention to detail and a habit of double-checking data for accuracy
  • Ability to take an ambiguous business question and turn it into a concrete data pull
  • Clear written communication - can explain findings to non-technical stakeholders
  • Reliable and organized, comfortable managing multiple requests from different teams at once

Nice to Have (Preferred)

  • Experience in finance, brokerage, fintech, or another regulated industry - or relevant coursework
  • Familiarity with brokerage/trading concepts (equities, options, order flow/PFOF, ACAT transfers, market data)
  • Python for data work (pandas), or a clear willingness to learn it
  • Experience with a BI/visualization tool (Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar)
  • Exposure to a relational database or cloud data warehouse (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, BigQuery)
  • Bilingual English/Mandarin Chinese - valuable given our client base
  • Familiarity with version control (Git)
