Job description

Performs a variety of duties in support of a computer, network (LAN/WAN), and/or client server unit. Reviews input data to verify adequacy and appropriateness of material required for data processing and related operations. Reviews output data to verify completeness, accuracy, and conformance to quality standards and specifications. Maintains internal records and may catalog, disperse, and return tapes/disks. May review daily processing logs and may set or revise schedules.

Process and monitors business, scientific, engineering, or other production batch job processing according to operating instructions. Observes equipment and processes via monitoring software and monitors consoles for operator messages or error indicators. Analyzes, documents and reports computer processing abends and hardware/software failures, determines cause, assesses alternative solutions, contact appropriate support personnel, implements corrective action and monitors to avoid recurrence. Ability to manage an increasingly complicated environment which consists of numerous servers, switches, applications and schedules of production batch jobs. Serves as an ambassador between different teams to resolve software and hardware failures and conflicts. Operates peripheral equipment to perform various maintenance tasks. Develops, coordinates and maintains departmental operating procedures to ensure effective problem-solving. Provides network, computer and equipment problem resolution support to improve customer satisfaction in reliability, and availability. May perform clerical work incidental to machine operations such maintaining production records, data center and visitor badging logs, and team shift reporting.

This position requires 24X7, 365 days in a year onsite support. Weekends and holiday shift work will be needed., Contacts are frequent with individuals representing other departments, and business units. Good verbal and written communications required for gathering/supplying details about job failures from/to analysts and communicating with management and team leads.

Consequence of Errors Errors may be difficult to detect and would normally result in loss of customer business, material/equipment or have financial repercussions.

Supervision Received Limited supervision. No instructions needed on routine work and general instructions given on new lines of work or special assignments.

Requirements

Associate's Degree and 1 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

Nice to Have

Understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job, and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered. Ability to work with systems that process on multiple platforms, for example UNIX and Windows. Knowledge of networking and distributed computing concepts. Knowledge of scheduling and monitoring tools such as Control-M, Job and Alert Monitoring and lifecycle management, Tivoli and Network Manager. Focused on customer satisfaction.
