Job description

The Senior FI/CO SAP Business Analyst is a senior-level functional and technical expert responsible for designing, configuring, enhancing, and supporting SAP S/4HANA Finance and Controlling solutions within a Life Sciences (GxP-regulated) environment. This role serves as a critical liaison between Finance, Controlling, Quality, Compliance, and IT, ensuring SAP solutions are financially accurate, compliant, audit-ready, and scalable.

This position requires deep functional expertise in SAP FICO, combined with hands-on technical and development capabilities, including ABAP-supported enhancements, integrations, data migration, and reporting. The ideal candidate understands that in Life Sciences, process design, validation, and compliance are inseparable from system delivery.

Business Partnership & Analysis

  • Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, FP&A, and Controlling leadership to understand business objectives, regulatory constraints, and operational needs
  • Lead requirements gathering, process mapping, and solution design for SAP S/4HANA Finance initiatives
  • Translate business, regulatory, and compliance requirements into functional and technical specifications
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Finance and Quality stakeholders on SAP best practices, risk, and roadmap planning

SAP S/4HANA FICO Functional Ownership

  • Own configuration and support for SAP S/4HANA Finance, including:
  • General Ledger (GL) and Universal Journal
  • Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Asset Accounting (AA)
  • Bank Accounting, Cash Management, and Treasury integrations
  • Own configuration and support for Controlling (CO), including:
  • Cost Center Accounting
  • Profit Center Accounting
  • Internal Orders
  • Product Costing
  • Margin Analysis (Account-Based COPA)
  • Ensure financial accuracy, reconciliation, and alignment with GAAP, SOX, and internal controls

Development & Technical Capabilities

  • Design and deliver technical solutions, including:
  • Functional and technical specifications for ABAP developments
  • Hands-on ABAP development for targeted enhancements (reports, user exits, BAdIs, enhancements), as appropriate
  • Debugging and root-cause analysis of standard and custom SAP programs
  • Collaborate with SAP developers, integration teams, and BASIS to deliver:
  • Interfaces (IDocs, APIs, middleware integrations)
  • Enhancements, automation, and workflow improvements
  • Custom financial and management reporting

Compliance

Ensure SAP FICO solutions support, SOX, audit, and regulatory requirements. Design solutions with strong controls, segregation of duties, and audit trails

Lifecycle Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide Tier-3 support for complex SAP FICO production issues
  • Lead or support SAP S/4HANA Finance implementations, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Identify opportunities for automation, simplification, and reduction of manual finance processes

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience as an SAP FICO Business Analyst or Functional Consultant
  • Hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA Finance
  • Proven experience working directly with Finance and Accounting leadership
  • Experience in Life Sciences, Medical Devices, Pharmaceutical, or other regulated industries

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level SAP FICO configuration skills in S/4HANA
  • Strong understanding of SAP development concepts:
  • ABAP fundamentals
  • User exits, BAdIs, enhancements
  • Debugging and performance analysis
  • Experience with SAP integrations (IDocs, APIs, middleware)
  • Strong understanding of financial data models and reporting

Business & Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience leading workshops, design sessions, and cross-functional discussions
  • Ability to operate effectively in a regulated, audit-focused environment
  • Understanding of End-To-End processes and the inputs and outputs

Preferred Qualifications

  • SAP S/4HANA Finance certification(s)
  • Experience supporting global, multi-entity, multi-currency organizations
  • Exposure to SAP Activate methodology in regulated environments
