Job description

The Mid-Level Frontend Developer supports the development and enhancement of the Maryland Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance (MD FAMLI) web experience. This role focuses on building accessible, responsive web components and contributing to the logged-out site and design system. The developer works collaboratively with design, product, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality, user-centered solutions. Key Responsibilities · Build and maintain reusable web components that support the MD FAMLI website · Implement UI enhancements that improve usability, performance, and accessibility · Troubleshoot and resolve frontend defects with minimal oversight · Apply consistent styling and contribute to scalable frontend patterns · Develop responsive, accessible interfaces using modern HTML and CSS · Contribute to the logged-out site built with Eleventy and Decap CMS · Support the evolution of the Maryland Web Design System (MDWDS), extending the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) · Participate in accessibility audits and implement remediation fixes · Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers to translate requirements into working solutions · Contribute to component documentation and support knowledge sharing across the team Required Technical Skills · Solid foundation in JavaScript and modern frontend development practices

Requirements

· Experience with a modern JavaScript framework such as Svelte, Vue, or Ember · Strong proficiency in modern HTML and CSS, including responsive design · Experience using modern CSS features and best practices (within the past ~3 years) · Experience building or working with custom elements / web components (e.g., Lit, StencilJS, or similar) Preferred Qualifications · Experience with Ruby on Rails · Experience contributing to or maintaining a design system or component library · Familiarity with Eleventy (11ty) and/or Decap CMS · Experience implementing accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) · Familiarity with the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) or similar government design standards Level Expectations (Mid-Level) · Works independently on well-defined tasks and components · Requires minimal guidance for implementation but seeks input on complex decisions · Contributes to team discussions and proposes practical frontend solutions · Balances quality, accessibility, and delivery timelines effectively
