Job description

Senior DevOps Engineers own the infrastructure, automation, and deployment systems that keep Point One's services running reliably at scale - from the cloud and on-premise environments to the CI/CD pipelines and observability stack that the entire engineering team depends on.

This is an ownership-first role: you will build and operate the infrastructure that serves real-time corrections to hundreds of thousands of devices in the field, spanning cloud and bare-metal environments, with the availability and repeatability that mission-critical positioning demands.

The infrastructure you own is the foundation every other team builds on. This role is responsible for keeping it automated, observable, secure, and scalable: provisioning and managing environments as code, hardening deployment pipelines, and ensuring the network stays healthy as new regions, reference stations, and customers come online.

Success in this role means:

  • Infrastructure is provisioned, configured, and managed as code - reproducible, version-controlled, and easy to evolve.
  • Deployments are automated, safe, and fast, giving engineers confidence to ship frequently.
  • Services run reliably across all hosted environments, even under load and partial failure.
  • Observability is comprehensive - the team catches and resolves issues before customers feel them.
  • Infrastructure decisions reflect a deep understanding of real-world constraints - reliability, scale, security, and cost.
  • Engineers across the company are unblocked by self-service tooling, clear processes, and well-maintained environments., * Provision and manage cloud, on-premise, and bare-metal infrastructure using Terraform and SaltStack configuration management.
  • Build reproducible, version-controlled environments that are easy to stand up, evolve, and tear down.
  • Break down high-level goals into concrete tasks, schedules, and milestones, and hold yourself accountable for delivering against them.
  • Ensure infrastructure is well-structured, documented, and built to last as the product and customer base grow.

Automate Deployment and Delivery

  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins) that make shipping fast, safe, and repeatable.
  • Containerize services with Docker and orchestrate them with Kubernetes across environments.
  • Drive improvements in build, test, and release workflows so engineers can deliver with confidence.
  • Standardize deployment patterns and reduce toil through tooling and automation.

Operate Reliable Systems

  • Own observability - metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana) - so issues are caught and resolved before customers feel them.
  • Design for high availability, graceful degradation, and recovery across cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Identify and resolve infrastructure bottlenecks and reliability risks early, particularly as traffic and scale grow.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident response, drive root-cause analysis, and follow through on durable fixes.

Support the Engineering Team

  • Build self-service tooling and clear processes that unblock engineers and reduce friction.
  • Collaborate with backend, embedded, firmware, and customer-facing teams to deliver reliable end-to-end systems.
  • Surface infrastructure risks and tradeoffs early so architecture and delivery decisions reflect real-world constraints.
  • Follow security and access-management best practices across infrastructure, secrets, and deployment pipelines., These are the behaviors we expect every team member to bring to work - the foundation of being a consummate, high-output teammate:
  • Trust / Assume Best Intent - Trust allows us to move fast. When we start from trust, we spend no time second-guessing or looking for ulterior motives and thus focus all our energy on acting.

High Output, Action Oriented - Our default posture is "yes." We bias toward action and deliver results quickly, knowing that speed and efficiency compound into impact as we unblock others around us. * Divine Discontent - We're never satisfied with the status quo and are self-motivated to improve ourselves, our work, and our company. We actively seek feedback in real-time to shorten improvement cycles. * No Ego, One Team - Collaboration without ego creates leverage. When we win as one team, we eliminate friction and move faster together. * Self Accountability - Taking ownership is the straightest line to learning, self-improvement, and correcting our course of action. And blaming others around us is a fast path to destroying trust.

Operating Principles

These are the systems and norms that amplify speed and efficiency at the company level:

  • Edge Innovation - We bias toward action over approval. Experiment, decide, and move - failure is just a step toward faster learning.

No Hierarchies - We practice self-prioritization and go direct to the source. Flattening layers reduces drag and maximizes autonomy. * Customer Experience First - We optimize for the end-to-end customer outcome, not functional or departmental efficiency. This focus cuts waste, aligns priorities, and ensures we spend effort where it matters most.

If this role sounds like a fit, we'd love to hear from you. Apply below and join us in shaping the future of precise location.

Requirements

  • Proven professional experience (5+ years) in DevOps, SRE, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
  • Proven ability to provision and operate production infrastructure - from setup through deployment and on-call ownership.
  • Proven ability to decompose high-level goals into actionable tasks, realistic schedules, and clear milestones - with a track record of delivering on commitments.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud.
  • Strong experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
  • Experience with containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) in production.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Comfortable scripting and automating in any general-purpose language.
  • Solid understanding of networking, Linux systems, and security fundamentals.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with programming languages (Go, Java, Python, Node).
  • Experience operating hybrid cloud and on-premise / bare-metal fleets at scale.
  • Background in highly available or mission-critical systems.
  • Experience supporting real-time or low-latency services.
  • Experience with distributed and clustered data stores (e.g., ScyllaDB, PostgreSQL)
  • Experience with security and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2).
