Job description
Reporting to the Director of R&D Loggers, the Senior Firmware Engineer leads and implements software features, ensures delivery of high-quality, secure code, and collaborates across teams to sustain and grow applications. This role includes debugging complex issues, mentoring junior engineers, and staying current with evolving technologies to guide best practices.
This position is part of the Engineering team located onsite in Loveland, CO.
In this role, a typical day will look like:
- Lead and attend design sessions for product features
- Implement product features with minimal oversight
- Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies
- Contribute to software architecture decisions with maintainability and extensibility in mind
- Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware
- Ensure delivery of high-quality code that optimizes the company's investment
- Continually sustain and grow the embedded software, especially as technologies change.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or 3+ years of relevant software development experience
- Strong object-oriented design and programming skills
- Proficiency in understanding hardware systems constraints
- Proficiency in building maintainable software with testing and extensibility in mind
- Understanding of software architecture and testing fundamentals
Desired Experience:
- Experience building embedded systems in C/C++ Reading and understanding hardware datasheets and schematics
- Hardware bring-up experience
- Experience with the following:
- Modbus, RS485, RS232, SDI-12
- ARM Cortex-M processors
- FreeRTOS or other modern RTOS
- Using logic analyzers
- Debugging embedded software using debug probes
- Assembly language
- CMake
- Continuous integration
- Refactoring and improving legacy code
- BLE, cellular modems, and satellite modems

- 401(k), The compensation range for this role is $95,000 - $125,000 USD per year. This job is also eligible for Bonus Pay.
