Job description
This position leads the collection, management, analysis, and interpretation of student success data in support of a major, multi-year, grant-funded initiative. Working cooperatively with Academic Affairs; Assessment, Research, and Planning (ARP); and student support areas, the Data Analyst ensures accurate, timely, and meaningful data are used to inform strategic decisions and demonstrate grant compliance. Responsibilities include data collection and validation, analysis and reporting, survey administration support, and development of data-informed recommendations to improve student success, persistence, retention, and graduation outcomes. The position works closely with grant leadership to align data activities with project goals and reporting requirements. This position reports to the AVP for Student Success & Retention and is located on the Midlands Technical College Airport Campus.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree in data analytics, statistics, social sciences, education, business, or a closely-related discipline, as well as professional experience involving the collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of quantified data. A master's degree in statistics may be substituted for the required work experience., The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience working with student or institutional data, preferably in a higher education setting, and using data to support decision-making and/or grant reporting. They should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to translate data into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience collecting, managing, and analyzing student data related to enrollment status (full-time/part-time, traditional/non-traditional, international), academic performance, and outcomes such as persistence, retention, and graduation.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and data analysis tools and comfort working with multiple data systems and file formats.- Experience preparing clear written reports, dashboards, or summaries that communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with academic leaders, student services staff, and technology partners to identify data needs, ensure data quality, and support continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with retention management software, survey tools, and/or student information systems; experience working with institutional research or assessment functions is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, meet grant reporting timelines, and maintain accurate documentation and audit-ready records.
