Job description

  • Independently designing, administering, and further developing the technical operating environment for our OJS application, including the underlying server, container and deployment infrastructure
  • Ensuring stable, secure, and high-performance application operations across development, test and production environments, including monitoring, security management, fault analysis, and troubleshooting
  • Design and further development of automation and deployment processes, in particular based on GitLab CI, Ansible, and container-based deployment methods
  • Providing technical advice and working closely with application support, software development, and other stakeholders on the further development of the application and operations platform; contributing to the further development of our DevOps and container strategy
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation, operational processes, and knowledge documentation, Within the Publishing Services team, staff members work across various fields to facilitate free access to academic information (Open Access). The TIB supports you in your plans for professional and personal development and, through the Digital Service Development competence area, among other initiatives, offers opportunities for cross-project exchange on organizational and technical topics. You will work in a small team with experienced OJS colleagues., 1. Acting in the capacity of the Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology, our forward-looking services secure the infrastructural requirements for providing researchers in science and industry with high-quality information and literature.
  1. Carrying out cutting edge research to further expand TIB's role as a German information centre for the digitisation of science and technology.
  2. Offer library services for the Leibniz University Hannover.

Requirements

  • A completed university degree (Bachelor's degree/FH diploma or equivalent), preferably in Computer Science or a related field OR at least three years' relevant professional experience
  • Experience with automation and deployment tools
  • Knowledge of container technologies such as Podman or Docker
  • Practical experience in operating Linux servers and web-based applications
  • Knowledge in the areas of system administration, IT security, monitoring, and fault analysis
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to explain technical matters in a way that is tailored to the audience and to develop solutions in collaboration with people in different roles
  • A structured, independent, goal- and solution-oriented approach to work with proven implementation skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good command of German (at least B2 level)

Desirable Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of PHP applications and an interest in familiarising yourself with existing application components
  • Experience in producing technical documentation
  • Experience with Ansible, GitLab CI/CD or similar automation tools
  • Basic understanding of Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms, In the case of foreign university degrees, it is mandatory to submit a Statement of Comparability from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) for the final assessment of the hiring requirements during the hiring process (link for more information). A fee will be charged for this. This obligation does not apply if the foreign university degree has already been assessed by an expert and is listed in the ANABIN database of the ZAB as an equivalent university degree (link to ANABIN database).

Benefits & conditions

The position is initially limited to two years with envisioned extension. The regular weekly working time is 19.90 hours (part-time, 50 %). The remuneration is based on pay scale group 11 TV-L. If you are interested in taking on additional work, we will consider the option of extending your weekly hours by involving you in related projects., * a job in the public service oriented towards the common good on the basis of the collective agreement for the public service of the German states (TV-L) with a salary in pay scale group 11 TV-L, provided that the personal requirements are met.
