HPFT is looking for an experienced digital leader to lead our Data Engineering, Software Development, Integration and Automation services and play a key role in delivering our Digital Strategy.
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, you will provide technical leadership, architectural oversight and programme delivery expertise across a wide range of digital initiatives. You will lead teams responsible for data engineering, software development, system integration and automation, ensuring the Trust has secure, reliable and innovative digital solutions that support excellent care and operational performance.
You will be responsible for designing and implementing complex digital solutions, leading major programmes and projects, developing business cases and technical designs, managing budgets and supplier relationships, and ensuring systems comply with relevant clinical safety, information governance and regulatory requirements.

- Lead the Trust's Data Engineering, Software Development, Integration and Automation services.
- Act as the technical design authority for in-house developed business and clinical system solutions.
- Provide technical leadership, architectural design expertise and programme management across major digital initiatives.
- Develop and deliver the implementation programme for the Trust's Digital Strategy.
- Lead the development of business cases, requirements specifications and technical solution designs.
- Establish and manage software development, data engineering, integration and automation standards, policies and continuous improvement programmes.
- Lead major digital programmes and projects, ensuring effective governance, risk management and delivery of benefits.
- Manage programme budgets, resources, procurement activities and third-party supplier contracts.
- Ensure systems and digital services comply with clinical safety, information governance, medical device and other regulatory requirements.
- Work with clinical, operational and corporate leaders to understand requirements and deliver digital solutions that improve services and outcomes.
- Provide expert technical advice and assurance to senior leaders, the Executive Team and Trust Board.
- Drive the development of new digital capabilities, automation solutions and integrated systems that support transformation and service improvement., The Head of Data Engineering, Integration and Automation role is responsible for providing data engineering, project management, architectural design, and technical leadership to the Trust and will act as the design authority for in-house developed business and clinical system solutions.
The post holder will lead the delivery of the Data Engineering, Software Development, Integration and Automation services and the implementation of a wide range of systems in collaboration with other managers throughout the Digital and Technology directorate and across the Trust. The post holder will take a leading role in interpreting the Digital Strategy, produce detailed plans and implement major system solutions for the Trust.
Through the data engineering function as well as the wider Digital and Technology directorate, the post holder will enable, promote and support the effective use of data, information, knowledge and technology to help deliver great care and great outcomes for our service users and carers.
The post holder will be responsible for the development of business cases, requirement specifications and technical system designs based upon a sound understanding of the business, care delivery and technical needs of the Trust.
A sound technical and functional understanding of a wide range of business and clinical systems will be essential in order to construct a set of interoperating systems that are constructed from both off the shelf and bespoke in-house developed software.
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the post holder will develop and manage the programme of works for the implementation of the Trust's Digital Strategy including the negotiation of the project budgets and resources with other stakeholders.
Requirements
- Postgraduate education at master's level in a relevant specialist area or equivalent experience
- Professional qualification in a recognised programme or project management methodology such as MSP, PRINCE 2, AgilePM, * Experience working at a strategic level in AIM&T within the NHS, including involvement in strategic planning and decision-making and service level responsibility.
- Significant line management experience with an understanding of performance and workforce issues
- Extensive experience of working within a systems development environment and IM&T programmes and projects.
- Significant experience of leading, planning and managing programmes and projects, including business case development., * Leadership, coaching and management skills.
