Job description
As the Lead Software Engineer with American Family Insurance, you will collaborate with others to deliver applications that meet our needs. Responsible for leading a large-scale application migration project, including planning, coordination across technical and partners, and execution to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption. Accountable for the design and development of enterprise business solutions and for providing technical guidance and direction for specific applications and associated platforms.
You will report to the Manager, Engineering., + Lead a large-scale enterprise migration project, driving planning, execution, and cross-team coordination.

Provide early-phase project expertise (resource/skill/time estimates, tool/technology selection, and proof of concept participation).

Analyze high-level system specifications, business requirements, and use cases; identify system dependencies and impacts.

Translate requirements into detailed specifications and system design plans for the development team.

Validate complex design decisions with stakeholders; provide advanced coding guidance to mitigate high-risk features and technical challenges.

Create and maintain required documentation (design decisions, estimating assumptions, code modules, performance metrics) in alignment with organizational standards.

Define, conduct, and mentor others on development standards and best practices.

Lead development walkthroughs.

Partner with teams to evaluate system flows, data usage, and manual/automated processes to confirm requirements and solution effectiveness.
Requirements

Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service.

Demonstrated experience analyzing and understanding complex software/systems.

Demonstrated experience communicating technical information.

Demonstrated experience developing different solution-delivery and design approaches and solutions to customers.

Demonstrated experience developing complex software/systems using one or more programming languages.

Demonstrated experience analyzing and estimating project size and work efforts for software solutions.

Demonstrated experience providing technical guidance to less experienced staff.

Extensive knowledge and understanding of software development and design standards and methodologies.

Extensive knowledge and understanding of infrastructure technologies, operating systems, and the interconnectivity between infrastructure platforms and software tools.

Extensive knowledge and understanding of systems development life cycle (SDLC).

Solid knowledge and understanding of application architecture and design alternatives.

Solid knowledge and understanding of integration and migration strategies and technologies.
