Job description
The Senior Appian Developer/Technical Lead serves as APV's principal technical authority for the Appian Case Management platform, which provides enterprise case management functionality supporting multiple business processes. This role owns the Appian technical roadmap, coordinates iterative release activities with the client development contractor, drives root cause analysis for production defects, and ensures full lifecycle Operations & Maintenance (O&M) support aligned to the federal agency System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Change Control Process (CCP)., The SeniorAppian Developer/Technical Lead will: Lead operations, maintenance, administration, and enhancement of Appian-based applications, including custom application development, workflow automation, system integration, and deployment.Design and maintain Appian XML framework artifacts, including workflows, definitions, and properties, as well as Java-based advanced development components supporting case management solutions.Coordinate iterative Appian release activities and schedules with the client development contractor; triage bugs and enhancement requests added to the application backlog following each release.Perform triage on all problem tickets to categorize as operational/maintenance issues (bug fixes), enhancement requests, or new development efforts beyond current scope; review triage decisions regularly with the COR.Own root cause analysis and timely resolution of all bugs introduced in releases while maintaining planned release schedules and operational activities.Drive the Change Control Board (CCB) submission and approval process for new releases; schedule and perform deployments upon CCB approval.Manage Team Foundation Server, Azure DevOps, and Help Desk ticketing system work items by eliminating duplicates, maintaining accurate status, and ensuring proper closure.Support Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) activities on assigned projects, including test procedure support and coordinated software remediation.Develop and maintain entity relationship diagrams, data dictionaries, technical documentation, user manuals, training materials, architecture documents, release documentation, and requirements documentation.Support the knowledge transfer period at contract start and provide risk briefings to the Project Manager covering business disruption, organizational alignment, and other identified risks.Provide 24x7 emergency response support for Fatal, Impaired, and Business Critical incidents.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field; Master's degree preferred. Additional years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for education requirements.
Required Experience and Skills:
This position supports a U.S. federal government program. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or lawful permanent residents and be able to successfully complete any required federal background investigation.Minimum ten (10) years of enterprise software development experience, including at least five (5) years of hands-on Appian BPM platform development involving custom application development, administration, integration, and workflow automation.Active Appian Certified Senior Developer certification.Demonstrated experience with Appian XML framework components, including workflows, definitions, and properties, and Java for advanced Appian development.Experience maintaining Appian installations in self-managed customer environments.Experience with JBoss application server administration and deployment.Working knowledge of SQL, JavaScript, JSON, HTML, and XML.Experience with Git/GitHub source control, Azure DevOps (Boards, CI/CD pipelines, build and release management), and DevSecOps practices.Experience with Object-Oriented Design, Test-Driven Development, and Logical and Physical Data Modeling (Erwin or similar tools).Demonstrated experience leading O&M or sustainment efforts for mission-critical federal case management or workflow systems.Proven ability to interface with federal Contracting Officer's Representatives (CORs), Change Control Boards, and stakeholder prioritization meetings.
Preferred Skills:
Prior federal regulatory agency experience.Experience integrating Appian with legacy .NET systems.Azure Cloud Administration experience, including Azure VM provisioning, configuration, monitoring, scaling, patching, and related services such as networking, storage, and identity management.Familiarity with the NIST Secure Software Development Framework (SSDF), Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) generation, and Section 508 accessibility standards.Prior experience supporting IV&V-tested federal systems.
