Job description
An individual in this class is responsible for collaborating with the senior Network Administrator in designing and implementing the district network environment. The employee conducts the installation, maintenance, and operation of local area network and associated computer hardware and software. The employee coordinates with the Director of Instructional Technology and Network Administrator for the evaluation of school system networking needs and recommends improvements and modifications to existing infrastructure. Employee diagnoses and resolves complex local area network issues in collaboration with the Network Administrator., * Collaborates with the Network Administrator in ongoing development and management of the custom configurations and maintenance of all network devices.
- Provides direct communication as requested by the Director of Instructional Technology.
- Installs local and wide area networks including network servers, switches, routers, workstations, printers, and other peripheral devices.
- Tracks significant problems, monitors performance, and performs upgrades to hardware and software as required.
- Installs or modifies existing installations of networked computer hardware, software, and other components.
- Participates in long- and short-range technology planning.
- Collaborates with technical staff at the building level to follow proper operating procedures necessary to maintain the integrity of the network; conducts training as needed.
- Maintains documentation regarding network configuration, operating procedures, and service records relating to network hardware and software in collaboration with the network administrator.
- Assists in developing and communicating technology usage policies and procedures for the district to promote the proper use of the district network.
- Attends classes, seminars, conferences, and reviews professional literature to enhance knowledge of trends and developments related to local area network systems.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of computers and related technologies such as Windows, Active Directory, and computer networking.
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure requirements and components of local area networks such as Cisco switches and routers, Wireless Access Points and Controllers, and Firewall.
- Strong knowledge of network operating systems such as Windows Server in an Active Directory Environment, and virtualization (Hyper-V).
- Considerable knowledge of local area network protocols and diagnostic tools.
- Familiarity with cloud identity platforms such as Microsoft Entra ID and Google Workspace.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technology users.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field. Two (2) years of experience in a network or systems administration environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Optional but highly encouraged)
Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field.3+ years of experience managing enterprise local area networks (LANs) and virtualized environments.Active certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Security+, or Microsoft fundamental/associate specs.
