Job description

Principal Functional Responsibilities: Teaching and Service: Participate in graduate student education based on areas of expertise, contributing to direct teaching needs. Evaluating the success of teaching contributions may be based on student achievement, student evaluations, course/module director evaluations, and peer evaluations. Ongoing success in teaching activities is essential to maintaining a faculty appointment. Active participation on college and university committees will be required and assigned. In addition, membership and participation in state and national professional organizations is strongly encouraged. Evaluating the success of service obligations will be based on level of participation and engagement in support of related activities. Research: Participate in scholarly activities and/or research focus areas as appropriate. Participate in extramural funding opportunities, conduct collaborative scholarly inquiry. Maintain extramural funding and productivity, generate a percentage of base salary through extramural support. Publish quality papers. Serve on journal editorial board and peer-review committees. Evaluating the success of this research obligation will be based on efforts toward publication and participation in extramural funding opportunities. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Summary: Full-time non-tenure-track appointment at a rank commensurate with qualifications and experience in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, or a closely related field. Primary curricular and teaching responsibilities within the College of Graduate Studies (COGS) and providing statistical consulting services to faculty engaged in health professions research within the Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI). This role will primarily support a new asynchronous online Master of Science program in Health Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. Candidates with higher ranks may take on leadership roles in curriculum development, faculty mentoring, and program administration., * Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, or a closely related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching AI, machine/deep learning, or statistical methods, preferably in an online setting.
  • Understanding of AI applications for health professions disciplines.
  • Experience with relevant programming languages (e.g., Python, R).
  • Background in statistical consulting and data analysis.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in undergraduate, graduate, or medical student teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of healthcare data sources, electronic health records (EHR), or clinical trial data.
  • Familiarity with AI ethics and regulatory considerations in health professions.
  • Teaching Experience and Expertise: Experienced educator with experience in curriculum and online course development and implementation. Contribute to the teaching and research missions of the department. Interested in educational innovation and up to date on contemporary educational approaches. Openness to new educational approaches.
  • Leadership experience in academic program development, faculty mentoring, or administrative roles (for senior-level applicants).
  • Research and Scholarship: Track record of research/scholarship. Able contribute to the research/scholarship mission of the department and able to mentor students, fellows, and faculty as appropriate.
  • Collaborative: Can work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students at the college and the university.
  • Humanistic Environment: Committed to building a humanistic culture/climate within the college and to fostering student success.
