Job description

The System Administrator II, Virtualization maintains the integrity of the virtualization environment. Assists in installing, configuring, and maintaining virtualized workstations and servers in support of processing requirements. Provides extensive operations support, file restorations, backups, disk space management, and problem resolution for operating systems platforms. Provides new hardware specifications to customers based on application needs and anticipated growth. Deploys new servers and maintains the server infrastructure. This position is a member of a 24/7/365 global department., 1. Monitors and maintains the server and desktop compute infrastructures, including blade server environments, hyperconverged environments, storage, and virtualization layers

  1. Assists in developing and implementing business continuity practices for virtualization management
  2. Installs, configures, tests, and implements infrastructure software and hardware
  3. Monitors use and availability of resources, generating reports and analysis as requested
  4. Troubleshoots virtualization related issues and takes appropriate actions
  5. Assists users in identifying difficult technical problems and devising solutions
  6. Analyzes systems requirements and performance of hardware and software systems and helps to optimize the overall use of these systems
  7. May commonly be part of a project team and assist on projects
  8. May be project leader on small or task specific projects
  9. Maintains tasks, projects, and activities in the IT system of Record (S-NOW)
  10. Understands and follows LSCS standard operating procedures
  11. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

Requirements

· Requires knowledge of job responsibilities, procedures, practices; training or basic knowledge in a professional field; requires general understanding of purpose and operations outside own work unit

· Must possess a working knowledge of server hardware technologies, including converged, hyperconverged, and composable infrastructure

· Ability to train in certain procedures or equipment may be required

· May require knowledge of the College's policies and procedures

· Ability to manage complex problems that must be broken down into manageable pieces, ability to see relationships between problem components and prioritizes them

· Ability to collaborate with team; shares relevant information with those who may be affected by decisions

· Participates in formal or informal group problem solving for immediate issues

· May develop presentations to educate internal or external audiences

· Ability to translate technical or procedural information into specifications or action plans

· Ability to convey technical or complex information to others in non- technical terms

· Knowledge of duties and activities covered by specific instructions, standard practices and established procedures that require some interpretation

· May ensure that others comply with established standards within one's own work unit. May provide guidance in routine tasks

· Ability to seek opportunities and set some goals for own development and for one's own work

· Seeks out and identifies multi-faceted problems and opportunities, taking immediate action to address them

· Must recognize immediate obstacles to completing work, initiates action to address a need without being directed

· Ability to follow IT procedures to complete work, but may recommend changes to departmental processes

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

· Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment

· Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position

· Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards, · Associate degree or higher and at least 4 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

· Experience working with VMware virtualization technologies or another equivalent enterprise virtualization stack

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:

· Bachelor's degree

· Entry-level certification(s) in areas of responsibility

o VMware Certified Technical Associate

o Dell Certified Associate, Information and Storage Management

o Cohesity Certified Data Protection Associate

o Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)

o AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner

o any other similar related professional certification

· Intermediate certification(s) in areas of responsibility

o VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization

o VMware Certified Professional - Network Virtualization, · General IT certification(s) in a related discipline

o CompTIA Server+

o CompTIA Security+

o CompTIA Cloud+, · Hands-on experience with converged, hyperconverged, or composable compute hardware infrastructure in an enterprise datacenter environment.

· Hands-on experience with enterprise-grade backup and recovery systems (Veeam, Cohesity, Rubrik, or similar)

· Hands-on experience with administering cloud infrastructure (Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or similar)

· Hands-on experience with managing and maintaining Fibre Channel Storage and/or Network-Attached Storage systems.

· Hands-on experience in physical datacenter management, including power, UPS, and cooling systems.

· Experience or knowledge of network virtualization technologies such as VMware NSX or similar

Benefits & conditions

Hiring salary range is $64,826 to $74,550

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
