Requirements

Description AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a significant development in Utility Computing for EU customers. We are looking for experienced systems engineers with a strong background in cloud operations to lead and build the AWS Managed Operations team that will deliver high-availability services such as EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock in the ESC. For more information on ESC, visit the AWS blog: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/in-the-works-aws-european-sovereign-cloud/ Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include overseeing the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams, and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology. A typical day involves working with technology leaders to improve operations, enhancing availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC. You will also participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents out of hours and write actionable bug reports and scripts to accelerate root-cause analysis. Eligibility Requirements - Fluency in written and spoken English is required. - Candidate must be a national of an EU member state and reside in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. - Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union. - Employees will participate in an on-call rota. Basic Qualifications - Nationality of an EU member state. - Bachelor's degree in computer science (or related IT discipline) or equivalent industry experience. - Knowledge or experience in scripting (Bash, Python, or Ruby) or software development (Java, TypeScript, or similar), along with Linux and networking fundamentals for troubleshooting and optimizing system performance and reliability. Preferred Qualifications - Ability to execute standard operating procedures and follow operational best practices. - Experience operating services in AWS or other cloud systems. - Experience operating 24×7 high-availability, distributed software applications, performance tuning, and optimizing fleet utilization and monitoring frameworks (such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar). - Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar.
